Bryan Metzger has published seven pieces criticizing Iran’s biggest opposition, the People’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI / MEK Iran). Metzger authored the pieces in less than 48 hours, which means he just googled what he wanted to write and gathered information to back up his pre-existing notions. There is no objectivity, neutrality, genuine in-depth research, or talking to people on both sides of the issue.

Women have important leadership in the organization

Vice President Mike Pence’s remarks of love for major opposition figure Maryam Rajavi is comically downgraded as praise for “the group that forbids members from sexual thoughts” in this story’s click-bait title.

The MEK is a completely female-led group. Women have important leadership roles in the organization, including the general secretariat. Unlike their adversaries, Iran’s extreme clerics are characterized by misogyny and hostility against women.

Misogynist mullahs, who dominate Iran’s whole media, invent rumors and conspiracies about the MEK on a daily basis in order to undercut their moral superiority. For example, in 2018, the state-run Mashreq newspaper published a lengthy propaganda piece that was utterly devoid of reality and facts. The MEK is accused of “sexual exploitation” and even “sterilization” of women throughout the play.

 

Iranian women are fed up with the mullahs’ regime

The regime’s motivation is clear: to prevent Iranian women who are fed up with their country’s patriarchal and religious rulers from supporting the MEK. Regardless, it is evident that it is not working.

Because its newly minted president, Ebrahim Raisi, was a key role in the massacre of 30,000 MEK political prisoners in 1988, the regime is even more determined to destroy the MEK’s appeal and international recognition. The majority of the witnesses are MEK militants who escaped the slaughter, and one of the henchmen is currently on trial in Sweden. When Ebrahim Raisi was approached about attending the COP26 climate meeting in Scotland, he was faced with a lawsuit for his role in the 1988 massacre and felt it was not worth the risk.

 

 

The regime has intensified its propaganda against the MEK

As a result, it’s no wonder that Iran’s Islamic regime has intensified its propaganda campaign against the MEK. It is attempting to soothe its sorrows and compensate for its setbacks by utilizing its Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) to promote lies and falsehoods against the organization, planting tales through “friendly journalists.”

Why should the regime be concerned if the story is correct and the MEK is a “fringe group”? Why are anti-MEK outbursts practically daily in the state-run press, with officials warning about the MEK’s rising appeal among young Iranians? How could a movement be described as a “fringe group” that resembles a “cult” when hundreds of top current and former officials, parliamentarians, human rights campaigners, and journalists have visited MEK offices around the world, as well as its new headquarters in Albania, Ashraf-3?

 

 

More than 350 people from 47 countries visited Ashraf-3

Reps. Eliot Engel (D-NY), Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-TX), the late Senator John McCain, and senators John Cornyn, Roy Blount, and Tom Tillis are among these personalities. More than 350 people from 47 countries visited Ashraf-3 in July 2019. Similarly, scores of journalists from the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Belgium have visited Ashraf-3 and conducted private interviews with the people.

In February 2019, a court in Hamburg voted to reprimand Der Spiegel after another MOIS “friendly journalist” regurgitated a handful of similar slurs in the German publication. The magazine was ordered to erase the charges.

After failing to physically eradicate the MEK despite over 120,000 executions and many acts of terrorism, the dictatorship has been spreading misinformation for years with the intention of politically undermining the MEK.
