Iran Protests

Thousands of people took to streets in Iran over the downing of Ukrainian airplane by the IRGC

On January 11, 2020, thousands of students in Tehran protested over the IRGC missile attack at the Ukrainian Airliner killing 176 people on board. Shortly after the student’s gathering, people joined the students; the protesters chanted “We did not give martyrs, to praise the murderous leader,” “Don’t be afraid, we are all united,” “Do not call me seditionist, you are the sedition, the oppressor.”

The regime’s Security forces attacked the protesters in Hafez Street firing tear gas. A large crowd outside the Amir-Kabir University chanted: “I will kill whoever killed my brothers!” and “This is a clear warning to the mullahs’ regime.” “1,500 people were killed in November.” Referring to the 1,500 protesters killed by the regime’s security forces during the November 2019 uprising.  The students at Sharif University in Tehran held a rally chanting “IRGC is the shame of our country.”

During protests that erupted after the Iranian regime admitted to having shot down a Ukrainian airplane on January 8, demonstrators chanted: “Death to dictator,” and “Our leader is a disgrace,” calling for the ouster of the ruling mullahs, and “Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, resign, resign,” the protesters called for the overthrow of Khamenei’s regime. The suppressive forces attacked the protesters and tried to disperse them by firing teargas.

Secretariat of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) in statement said:

“Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, hailed the arisen students and people in Tehran and urged all Iranians, especially the youth, to express support and solidarity with the families of the victims of this horrific crime by the mullahs. She called on the international community to prosecute and punish those responsible. The main culprits, Mrs. Rajavi said, are Ali Khamenei, as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Hassan Rouhani and IRGC commanders.”

Thousands of people joined the students chanting: “Death to this murderous regime,”, and “Death to this theocracy, for crimes in all these years,”

The protests quickly expanded all over Iran. The protesters were chanting: “Our crippled leader is our disgrace! “Referring to Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the regime.

In another development, on January 11, in Isfahan, people staged protests at the historic Siyo-Sepol Bridge and other parts of the city, chanting, “Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, resign, resign,” “IRGC commits crimes, leader supports,” “They killed our elite, replaced them with mullahs,” “The nation has not seen so many crimes,” “Khamenei beware, we are the people and not thugs,” and “Dictator and IRGC, you are our DAESH (ISIS).”

Reports from Iran indicate that on January 11, there have been some other protests gathering at Bu-Ali University campus in Hamedan, in Shiraz’ Ma’ali-abad district, and Nushirvan University in North City of Bobol.
