Iran has been provoking the international community for years. Most recently it has been using threats, blackmail, and ultimatums – in particular with regards to its nuclear activity – in order to coerce the international community into complying with its demands.
Threats, blackmail, and ultimatums
The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), and the People’s Mujahedin of Iran (PMOI / MEK Iran) reported that Iran’s Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi recently said that if Western leaders push Iran in a certain direction, then Iran would not be to blame if it acquires nuclear capability.
This is despite the Iranian regime maintaining its claim that its nuclear work is for peaceful purposes – scientific research and power generation. The Intelligence Minister’s comments prove that this is not the case at all, as has been suspected for many years.
Policymakers in the West should keep this in consideration when responding to the regime’s nuclear threats.
The regime’s nuclear threats
Looking at the reasons for Iran’s nuclear threats, it is clear to see that the regime is in an impossible situation. There was a glimmer of hope when President Biden took office because he stated his hopes of being able to re-join the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) that his predecessor left a few years ago.
Iran took this as the opportunity to push for economic sanctions to be lifted – those tough and hard-hitting sanctions that the Trump administration put back in place. It played hard on the peaceful nature of its nuclear program. However, the US maintained that Iran would have to become compliant with the terms of the nuclear deal before there was any sanctions relief. The regime knew it was not going to become compliant, hence its increased pressure on the US.
The mullah regime cannot be trusted
During his statement, the Intelligence Minister did refer to the peaceful nature of the regime’s nuclear program, but by saying that Iran would not be to blame if it was pushed into being nuclear-armed he made it very clear that the regime cannot be trusted.
From saying it is a peaceful program to making a nuclear threat in the next breath shows the regime’s true nature. It will do what it takes to achieve its goals.
Foreign “journalists” and lobbies across the world
This is part of the regime’s propaganda. Its propaganda machine is huge and involves large networks of foreign “journalists” and lobbies across the world.
Many of these operatives are not seen for what they are and have been able to manipulate the international community. It goes a long way in explaining why Western policymakers have been so conciliatory towards the regime, with many believing that the regime would become more moderate if appeasement policies were in place.
The West turns a blind eye to the regime
The reality was the contrary. The more the West turns a blind eye to the regime, the more emboldened it becomes. This is something that has been proven time and time again.
The regime’s opposition – The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), and the People’s Mujahedin of Iran (PMOI / MEK Iran) – have drawn attention to this time and time again, yet policymakers seem to ignore this.
It would be in the best interests of the international community and the suppressed people of Iran if this changed.
