Zarzalejos stated, “The situation in Iran is untenable for any democratic sensitiveness. We should express our solidarity with those who, within Iran and in exile, team up to face the regime.

In a significant development, the European Parliament has rallied in support of the Iranian resistance movement, led by Iranian opposition President-elect Maryam Rajavi of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI). This support was articulated by Mr. Javier Zarzalejos, member of the European Parliament (MEP) and head of EP’s Friends of a Free Iran intergroup, through a video message detailing the meeting of several MEPs with Mrs. Rajavi on November 22.

” This statement underscores a growing concern within the European Parliament regarding the situation in Iran, especially amidst the regime’s increasing acts of repression against its own people.

The parliament’s stance became more pronounced following the brutal attack on Alejo Vidal Quadras, a former member and Vice President of the European Parliament. On November 9, Quadras was shot in the face in Madrid by hitmen, an act he attributed to the Iranian regime. Although the Spanish police have not yet concluded their investigation, the incident is being treated as a case of terrorism.

“This week in the plenary, Mme Miriam Rajavi, leader of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, is visiting the Parliament in Strasbourg to discuss with MEPs the situation in Iran and the horrifying repression that the regime is conducting against the Iranian population,” Zarzalejos informed.

The Iranian regime’s actions extend beyond its borders, as Zarzalejos highlighted, “Iran has become a global threat. The Iranian regime is acting in Gaza through Hamas, in Lebanon and Syria, through Hezbollah in Yemen, through the Houthi faction, and it is the main ally of Russia in its invasion of Ukraine.”

In a poignant reminder of the regime’s internal oppression, Zarzalejos mentioned the tragic death of Mahsa, a 22-year-old Iranian girl, at the hands of the morality police for not wearing her headscarf properly. This incident, along with the introduction of new legislation imposing tougher measures on women and the exposure of a wide network of influence in Europe by the Iranian regime, paints a disturbing picture of the current state of affairs in Iran.

Concluding his message, Zarzalejos emphasized the European Parliament’s commitment to supporting the Iranian resistance. “The Ten Point platform put forward by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi for a free, secular, democratic, pluralistic Iran is worth being supported. And that’s why we openly reject the campaign to vilify the Iranian resistance abroad, which is one of the permanent strategies and actions of the Iranian regime.”

He reaffirmed, “We will stand with the Iranians who wish for freedom, democracy, and equality in the country. By doing so, we not only help Iran, but it’s in our own interest that Iran ceases to be a threat to us all.” This statement encapsulates the European Parliament’s resolve to support democratic movements in Iran and its broader commitment to global stability.
