In a concerning development in the Middle East, the Iranian regime, known for its aggressive posturing in the region, has intensified its internal crackdown.

The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) reports that in the past three weeks, at least 78 executions have been carried out by the regime, disproportionately impacting the Baluch community.  The situation escalated on November 13, when the regime executed three Baluchi prisoners – Mohammad Barahoui Anjomani, Mohammad Karim Bakazaei Akson, and Edris Bilrani – in Zahedan. Charged with assaulting State Security Force (SSF) facilities, these executions have drawn attention due to the regime’s failure to prosecute those responsible for the Zahedan’s Bloody Friday massacre on September 30, 2022, where over 100 civilians, including children, were killed by police fire at the same SSF station.

Earlier, on November 8, political prisoner Meisam Chandani (Dehghani), 34, was executed in Zahedan Central Prison after 12 years of imprisonment and alleged torture. Arrested at 22, Chandani faced death for supposedly killing three agents and committing acts against national security and God. His trial, criticized as a sham, reflects the regime’s broader pattern of repression. Two other Baluchi individuals were executed the same day.

These executions are part of a larger strategy by the regime to strengthen its control.

These executions are part of a larger strategy by the regime to strengthen its control.

This includes purging universities and government institutions of dissenting voices, escalating online surveillance, and passing new laws for data mining on citizens. These actions coincide with the regime’s efforts to project power in the Middle East, notably in the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Despite its international posturing, the regime’s primary concern appears to be internal unrest. Historically, it has used external conflicts to suppress internal dissent and obscure human rights violations.  However, resistance within Iran persists. Rebellious youth are actively targeting institutions of suppression like the Revolutionary Guards and Basij, signaling their defiance against the regime’s repression and regional aggression.

The people of Iran, through their resistance, are demonstrating their commitment to counter the regime’s warmongering.

Their actions symbolize a crucial ally for the global community in opposing the regime’s ambitions. As the regime’s internal and external policies converge into a worrying pattern, the international community is called upon to support the Iranian people in their pursuit of overthrowing the oppressive regime and restoring peace and stability in the region.
