As Iran’s government attempts to shift focus towards the ongoing war in Gaza, domestic unrest continues to escalate. This weekend saw a surge in nationwide protests, with citizens from various professions voicing their grievances against the regime’s policies.

In Aghajari, southwest Iran, Ministry of Oil and Gas staff staged a protest on Saturday, echoing unmet demands from previous rallies. This sentiment was shared by oil workers in Mahshahr and Siri Island, as well as staff at operational centers in Khark and Ahvaz in recent weeks. Their demands include the removal of salary and pension caps, restitution of excessive tax deductions, complete implementation of Article 10, and protection of their pension fund.

Retired oil sector employees in Karaj also took to the streets on Saturday, protesting against inadequate pensions amidst soaring living costs. Despite legal obligations, the government has failed to adjust pensions in line with these costs, forcing retirees from various sectors to demand change through public demonstrations. Similar protests were seen in Tehran and Shahin Shahr.

Social media reports indicate a violent turn during the INSIG workers’ protest in Ahvaz, with security forces clashing with the demonstrators. Despite this, the workers continued their protests into Sunday, demanding their rights.

Healthcare staff in Arak rallied in front of the governorate, protesting the poor enforcement of tariff laws. Nurses are particularly affected, facing mandatory overtime and a significant pay disparity with doctors. They demand the implementation of the 2007 tariff laws, which have been inadequately applied, leading to ongoing pay issues.

On Sunday, retirees and pensioners of the Social Security Organization held demonstrations in several cities, including Shush and Kermanshah. Their protests center around the government’s failure to adjust pensions as per its laws, leaving them struggling to meet basic needs. In Kermanshah, the chants criticized both the government and the Majlis for their disregard of the people’s plight.

In Ahvaz, the Iran National Steel Industrial Group’s workers held a rally, demanding better wages and work conditions. They protested against the non-implementation of the job classification plan and timely salary payments. Reports suggest that the CEO of INSIG has actively obstructed these plans and neglected workers’ demands.

These widespread protests reflect a growing discontent with the regime’s policies, underscoring a critical moment in Iran’s domestic affairs. As the government focuses on international conflicts, its citizens are increasingly vocal in demanding change at home.
