The dark recesses of Fardis Prison in Karaj, also known as Kachouii Prison, conceal a harrowing tale of human rights violations.

Political prisoner, Massoumeh Senobari, has languished in solitary confinement for approximately eight months. Subjected to limited contact and restricted movement, she remains isolated from fellow inmates. In an ominous breach of basic rights, prison authorities even restrict her from communicating with her family.

The severity of her situation emerged when an anonymous source revealed that Senobari had deposited close to one million tomans for her injured arm’s treatment. In a blatant disregard for her well-being, prison authorities continue to deny her access to necessary medical attention.

Senobari’s confinement was dictated by the judge overseeing her case, pushing her into further isolation by depriving her of the rudimentary pleasure of breathing fresh air. Her fleeting moments outdoors are tightly controlled, with authorities ensuring no interaction between her and other inmates.

Massoumeh Senobari’s life has been a series of grim episodes, marked by imprisonments and torture. The native of Tabriz was arrested on December 13, 2022, in Karaj and subsequently suffered 40 grueling days of interrogation. The Revolutionary Court of Karaj later sentenced her to 7.5 years, alleging her involvement in protests and her affiliation with the Iranian opposition, People’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

Her family, consumed by worry and uncertainty, remains unaware of her predicament. Born to Mohammad Ali in 1988, Senobari is a mother to a young daughter. Her past brushes with the law saw her incarcerated on charges of “propaganda against the state.”

this isn't her first confrontation with the authorities. In 2019, she endured brutal torture, leaving her incapacitated and visually impaired.

A subsequent arrest in 2020 subjected her to even more vicious treatment. Amidst the horrors of confinement, Senobari contracted Covid-19 during a prison outbreak. Her heart condition, compounded by these experiences, continues to deteriorate, exacerbated by authorities withholding vital medication.

Having been temporarily released in 2021, her re-arrest speaks to a larger issue plaguing the nation: the suppression of political dissidents.

The heart-wrenching ordeal of Massoumeh Senobari underscores the urgent call for reforms. As the world observes, it is hoped that the relentless spirit of human rights advocates will shine a light on the bleak corners of prisons like Fardis, ensuring justice and dignity for all inmates.
