On March 30, British MP and former Defense Minister Dr. Liam Fox addressed members of the People’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI/MEK)), Iran’s principal opposition group, at Ashraf 3 in Albania. In his speech, Dr. Fox condemned the Iranian regime as one of the most toxic and economically devastating in the world and called for its complete abandonment.

Dr. Fox highlighted the regime’s disregard for human dignity and safety, willingness to use hostage-taking as a tool of foreign policy, and complicity in human rights abuses and crimes against humanity. He expressed admiration for the bravery of the women of Iran in the struggle for freedom and urged Western countries to stand in solidarity with the people of Iran and support their fight for democracy, freedom, and the rule of law.

Dr. Fox criticized the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), an international agreement with Iran, stating that it does not deal with Iran’s ambition to become a nuclear weapon state or its ballistic weapons issue. He also criticized the regime’s determination to destabilize its neighbors in the region and its support for terrorism in other parts of the world.

He also thanked the women of Iran for their bravery in standing up to the regime and highlighted the importance of women’s rights in the struggle for freedom. Dr. Fox noted that Western countries were willing to support the Arab Spring but failed to provide moral support to the people of Iran during the 2009 protests. He called on the West to stand with the people of Iran in their fight for freedom and liberty.

Dr. Fox’s speech was met with appreciation by members of the MEK and supporters of the Iranian resistance. Many praised his strong stance against the regime and his support for the Iranian people’s struggle for democracy and freedom.

The Iranian regime has faced increasing international pressure in recent years due to its human rights abuses, support for terrorism, and nuclear ambitions. The regime has been accused of suppressing political opposition and freedom of speech, executing political prisoners, and discriminating against women, religious minorities, and members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Dr. Fox’s speech is a reminder of the importance of standing up for human rights and democracy in Iran and supporting the Iranian people’s struggle for freedom and liberty. It is also a call to action for Western countries to do more to support the Iranian resistance and hold the regime accountable for its actions.
