Belgian Senator Mark Demesmaeker slams EU for failing to hold Iranian regime accountable

In a powerful speech at a Nowruz rally in Brussels on March 20, Belgian Senator Mark Demesmaeker criticized European states for their failure to hold the Iranian regime accountable for its brutal approach at home and its extension of terrorism abroad.
Senator Demesmaeker expressed his support for the Iranian Resistance, its leadership, and the Resistance Units inside Iran. Senator Demesmaeker began his speech by congratulating the attendees on the Iranian new year, Nowruz, and spoke about his close monitoring of the situation in Iran for many years. He highlighted the Iranian people’s desire for regime change and their rejection of the current religious dictatorship of the mullahs, emphasizing their desire for a secular, democratic republic.
The Senator then turned his attention to the threat the Iranian regime poses to Europe’s security, accusing them of being actively engaged in Russian aggression against Ukraine and being the number one sponsor of terrorism in the world. He also accused the regime of using its embassies in Europe and its so-called diplomats for terrorism against its opponents, especially the main opposition People’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI/MEK).
.@markdemesmaeker: The people of #Iran have shown the whole world that they want regime change, that they reject the current religious dictatorship of the mullahs, and that they don't want to go back to a dictatorship of the Shah.#No2ShahNo2Mullahs https://t.co/0VrLvD58fA

Senator Demesmaeker urged the European Union and its member states to take a firm position against the Iranian regime, calling for the designation of the IRGC in the terrorist list of the European Union. He emphasized the importance of standing up against the terrorism of the Iranian regime to prevent them from becoming even more aggressive.
The Senator reminded the audience that “freedom, democracy, human rights, that independence die when people give up fighting for them when the free world appeases dictators and aggressors. History also showed that dictators eventually fall when the free world stands up to its principles when free people do not give up, and when the free world is united in supporting them.”
Senator Demesmaeker concluded his speech by expressing his support for the Iranian democratic opposition under the leadership of Mrs. Rajavi and the Resistance Units of the PMOI, who have played a significant role in the current uprising. He acknowledged their bravery and determination in facing a brutal Islamic fundamentalist terroristic regime and expressed his hope that they will eventually succeed in achieving a free Iran.
The Senator’s powerful speech at the Nowruz rally in Brussels highlights the urgent need for European states to take a firm stance against the Iranian regime’s brutal approach at home and extension of terrorism abroad. His support for the Iranian Resistance and its leadership and the Resistance Units inside Iran reinforces the need to continue the fight for freedom, democracy, and human rights in Iran.
