Belgian conference with NCRI in support of the ongoing widespread demonstrations in Iran

“Women are at the forefront of this movement because they have been the most oppressed by this misogynistic regime. It is an uprising against the religious dictatorship, with misogyny as its central pillar,” Mrs. Rajavi said, referring to Iranian women’s role in what many regards as Iran’s democratic revolution.
Belgian lawmakers held a conference in support of Iran’s nationwide uprising, with Iranian opposition President-elect Maryam Rajavi of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI). The event was presided over by Ms. Els Van Hoof, chair of the Belgian parliament’s foreign affairs committee.“The current situation in Iran is very sensitive. The regime has shown that it is capable of all crimes to remain in power. But in the face of the Iranian people’s courage, it has reached a dead end,” Mrs. Rajavi said.
In addition to calling for the closure of the regime’s embassy in Belgium, Mrs. Rajavi also urged Belgian lawmakers to designate the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) and the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) as terrorist organizations and to impose sanctions on Iran’s ruling theocracy.
It is worth noting that Assadollah Assadi, Iran’s diplomat-terrorist, was arrested and sentenced to life in prison in Belgium in 2018 for attempting to bomb the NCRI’s annual “Free Iran” rally in France.
While condemning the regime’s violence, MP Van Hoof emphasized that the Iranian people want a democratic republic to be established. She also praised the bravery of Iranian women, particularly those involved in the Iranian resistance.
Ondanks heldere roep voor democratie en vrijheid gaat Iraanse regime🇮🇷 gewoon verder met het doden van haar burgers. Samen met 120 collega's pleit ik voor Europese sancties tegen het brutale regime. Ms. Van Hoof also mentioned a resolution passed by the Belgian parliament on November 10 calling for the sanctioning of the IRGC and support for the Iranian people. She announced that over 120 Belgian legislators had signed a letter of support for the Iranian people’s uprising.
Senator Karin Brouwers also spoke at the conference. “Dictators who murder their own people, including children, cannot be tolerated. So, we give you all the support in your opposition against this regime and hope your march to a revolution toward a democratic republic will succeed. I thank you,” she said, expressing her support for Iran’s resistance movement.
In her remarks, MP Kathleen Depoorter stated that “we cannot accept nor deny the disruption of political rights and self-determination. It is not a coincidence that the opposition in Iran today is led by women, by you. And I truly support it.”

Senator Gatan Van Goidsenhoven also spoke at the event on Wednesday. He emphasized that European countries, particularly Belgium, should stand with the Iranian people now more than ever before and make it clear that Iran’s repressive regime must end and be sanctioned more severely than before. He admired the Iranian people’s struggle as well.
MP Marc-Jean Ghyssels also addressed the audience, refuting claims that Iran’s revolution is unorganized and without a leader. He emphasized that protesters and protests are well-organized, with leaders. He cited independent experts as saying that the organized structure of the uprising has indeed shaken the regime’s foundations.
He also emphasized that the Iranian people have been subjected to dictatorship for over four decades, both under the Shah and the mullahs. He told the Iranian people that there are millions of freedom-loving people like himself supporting their revolution all over the world.
MP Françoise Schepmans, who was also on the panel, underscored the Belgian lawmakers’ bipartisan support for the current nationwide uprising.
