MEK Iran: Mullah regime’s continual reliance on extortion to achieve belligerent goals
It was recently announced that the mullah regime would start producing uranium at 20 per cent at one of its nuclear sites. This is nuclear blackmail and it is not the first time this has happened.
The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and the Mujahedin-e Khalq (PMOI / MEK Iran), that the mullah regime’s notorious Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) illegally seized a South Korean vessel while it was in the Persian Gulf in another attempt to get the international community to give in to its demands.

Faced with these acts of belligerence, the international community must make it clear to Iran that this behaviour will not be tolerated or accepted. The international community has let the regime away with many acts of belligerence over the decades, with the West in particular favouring policies of appeasement.
Belligerence and acts of terrorism
The United States pulled out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), or 2015 Iran nuclear deal as it is known, because of Iran’s repeated breaches of the terms and its continued belligerence and acts of terrorism across the region and beyond. The European signatories of the deal, however, have maintained their appeasement policies and basically given the regime the green light to continue on the same malign path.
To justify its recent actions regarding the uranium enrichment and the seizure of the South Korean vessel, the regime has deflected on the issue. Regarding the nuclear issue, Iran is accusing the international community of not abiding by the JCPOA. And regarding the South Korean vessel, Iran has simply said that action was taken because the vessel was polluting the Persian Gulf.
But it is clear to see that the regime’s excuses are just that. Even Iranian state media has been reporting on the regime’s behaviour. The state-run Vatan-e Emrooz with links to the IRGC recently reported that enriching uranium at 20 per cent is the regime’s “winning card is facing western governments”. It explained that the regime is trying to force the signatories of the JCPOA to lift sanctions.
Mullahs regime has deceived the international community
For the past few years, the Iranian regime has deceived the international community on a huge scale. Despite this so-called landmark deal, the Iranian regime has completely gone against the purpose of the agreement and continued with its nuclear activities. This is something that the main opposition to the Iranian regime – The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI / MEK Iran) – has been warning about for years.
Regarding the South Korean vessel, the Vatan-e Emrooz publication wrote that it is the regime’s way of sending a message to the South Korean government. The regime is telling the South Koreans to make a decision – risk security while in Persian Gulf waters or “pay its long-standing debt to Tehran”.
What is clear, and what is lacking, is that the international community must be decisive. Anything other than decisiveness is interpreted by the regime as weakness and it will exploit it accordingly. Failure to address and respond to the regime’s actions are allowing the regime to exploit political situations and extort and blackmail the international community.
