MEK: Iran’s Embassies Must be Closed to Stop the Regime’s Terrorism

On 15 October 2020, a virtual conference was held by the British Committee for Iran Freedom. The event was chaired by Struan Stevenson, the Coordinator of the Campaign for Iran Change and former member of the European Parliament representing Scotland, and was attended by many cross-party MPs, peers, former MP’s and dignitaries. Speakers at the conference denounced the actions of Assadollah Assadi, the Iranian terrorist diplomat, and called for Iranian embassies in Europe to be closed.

Assadollah Assadi was a diplomat from the Iranian Embassy in Vienna, he is currently due to go on trial on 27 November for his orchestration of the regime’s terrorist plot. Assadi delivered 500gms of explosives and a detonator to agents instructed to bomb a major rally organized by the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) in 2018 in Paris. The event is attended annually by over 100,000 supporters of the People’s Mujahedin of Iran (PMOI / MEK Iran), the Iranian Resistance, and parliamentarians from across the globe. This will be the first time that a regime diplomat will be brought to trial on account of terrorism. Assadi has informed Belgian authorities that if he is found guilty, there will be violent retaliation against European targets.

There have been many instances of the regime ordering international terrorism and assassinations in an attempt to assert their power across the globe. The Iranian foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, who was responsible for giving executive orders for the foiled 2018 terrorist attack on the NCRI and (PMOI / MEK Iran), further instructed his team of supposed diplomats in Albania to commit acts of terror on Albanian soil.

The new base of the (PMOI / MEK Iran) is located in Albania, housing over 2,500 members, who became targets of the Iranian embassy who sought to track down and eliminate them. Albanian intelligence officers uncovered a plot to detonate a bomb at an Iranian New Year (Nowruz) gathering for (PMOI / MEK Iran) members.

Labour MP Steve McCabe, the speaker at the conference, summarised the opinions of all attendees: “There are those who argue for appeasement and more dialogue with the regime. It will not help. Iran is the leading sponsor of state terrorism. The only approach is to exclude the regime from the world community.”

Chairperson of the conference, Struan Stevenson, affirmed the devastating effects of the regime’s pursuit of global dominance and terrorism:” For the past 4 decades the mullahs’ revolutionary creed of radicalised Islam has left nothing but death and suffering in its wake. Pursuing their constitutional objective of spreading the revolution to create a fundamentalist Shi’ite caliphate…This theocratic fascist dictatorship has wrecked the Iranian economy, plundered the people’s wealth, ruined the environment, and turned this once great nation into an international pariah.”

The British Committee for Iran and Freedom conference concluded that the EU and UK must take serious action to ensure the termination of the regime’s bomb factories, the closure of Iran’s embassies and the expulsion of Iranian diplomats. Iranian regime leaders, such as Khamenei, Rouhani, and Zarif, must also be held accountable for their crimes against humanity and be brought to an international trial. The time of appeasement for the clerical regime must come to an end.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran’s (NCRI): “It is essential that Britain, Ireland, and other European countries designate the IRGC as a terrorist group, shut down the regime’s embassies that are centers for terrorist operations, and expel the regime’s agents from European soil.
