While global attention remains fixated on the military tensions between Iran’s clerical regime and Israel, an intense internal confrontation is unfolding within Iran itself. This internal struggle, spearheaded by MEK-affiliated Resistance Units and rebellious youth, marks a growing campaign by the Iranian populace against the regime. Acts of defiance are escalating, ranging from public protests to arson and attacks on government facilities, indicating a profound discontent that permeates the nation.

The Resistance Units, linked to the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), have mobilized to raise awareness and foster dissent against the regime. In numerous cities, including Tehran, Mashhad, Karaj, and Esfahan, banners, posters, and graffiti proclaiming support for Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), are becoming increasingly visible.

Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan, which advocates for a democratic and secular Iran, is prominently featured alongside slogans like “No to velayat-e faqih, yes to a democratic republic.” For instance, a banner in Tehran declared, “No force in the world is stronger than our will for freedom,” while projected images of Rajavi in Karaj and Isfahan inspired passersby to unite against oppression.

These high-risk actions are undertaken by individuals who put their lives on the line, as any connection to the MEK is perilous under the regime’s harsh crackdowns on dissent.

On a more aggressive front, rebellious youth have increasingly targeted regime-affiliated structures, transitioning from symbolic protests to active resistance. Recent incidents in cities such as Mashhad, Esfahan, Qazvin, and Shiraz have seen these courageous individuals set fire to Basij militia bases. For example, a Basij center in Qazvin, perceived as a tool of regime enforcement, was engulfed in flames. In Tehran, rebels destroyed billboards bearing images of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and his predecessor, Ruhollah Khomeini, signaling an unprecedented level of defiance. These bold actions underscore a movement prepared to confront the regime directly, reflecting widespread resentment toward Iran’s clerical elite.

This public discontent is deeply rooted in Iran’s enduring economic crises and years of political repression. Official reports indicate that around 30% of the population lives below the poverty line, with some economists suggesting the actual figure could be over 50%. Escalating inflation, particularly in essential goods and housing, has devastated many households, pushing even middle-income families to the brink. This economic despair, coupled with rampant unemployment and governmental repression, has led many Iranians to view the regime as corrupt and incapable of addressing their needs.

While the regime prioritizes military funding and regional conflicts, domestic welfare programs have deteriorated, exacerbating economic disparities and fueling public outrage. Despite government claims of economic stability, millions of Iranians face poverty and deprivation, with little hope for improvement.

The MEK-affiliated Resistance Units continue to galvanize public support through awareness campaigns, with Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan offering a hopeful alternative to the regime’s clerical rule. This evolving resistance movement signals that, even as external pressures mount, Iran’s internal opposition is more resilient than ever, with public defiance becoming increasingly organized and persistent. While the world focuses on Iran’s external conflicts, the true challenge may well lie within, as the populace’s calls for change resonate across the nation, from symbols of dissent to acts of rebellion.
