In a powerful address to supporters and dignitaries, Iranian opposition President-elect Maryam Rajavi of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), emphasized the need for a decisive change in global policy toward Iran’s clerical regime.
Speaking at a conference attended by prominent figures, including former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Rajavi highlighted the growing dissatisfaction among the Iranian people with the ruling mullahs and the need for international backing for democratic change.
Rajavi’s speech marked the 15th anniversary of the 2009 attack on Ashraf, where members of the People’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI/MEK) were brutally targeted by forces loyal to then-Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, a key ally of Iran. “We will never forget those dear martyrs,” Rajavi said, listing the names of those killed. She also praised the resilience of the survivors, who continued their hunger strike for 72 days, bringing global attention to the situation.
The MEK, a major faction of the Iranian opposition, has long been at the forefront of the resistance against Iran’s theocratic regime. Rajavi emphasized that the Iranian people’s call for regime change is stronger than ever. “The populace unequivocally demands the regime’s overthrow in its entirety,” she noted, referring to a sweeping boycott of Iran’s recent elections, in which nearly 90% of the population abstained.
Reflecting on Mayor Giuliani’s long-standing support for the Iranian resistance, Rajavi recounted how he had condemned the U.S. government’s failure to protect Ashraf residents. “Shame! Shame on this appeasement of the mullahs’ criminal regime!” Giuliani had declared. His condemnation, Rajavi said, highlighted the ongoing failure of international powers to address Iran’s internal repression and regional aggression.

Rajavi criticized the global policy of appeasement, arguing that it has allowed the Iranian regime to maintain its oppressive tactics both at home and abroad.
“Without a shift in policy, they will lack a reliable defense against these threats,” she warned. She called for a stronger international stance in support of the Iranian people, noting that without decisive action, the regime’s destabilizing influence would continue to grow.
The resistance movement, led by the MEK, continues to inspire the youth of Iran, despite the regime’s attempts to undermine it. Rajavi concluded by urging the global community to back the NCRI’s 10-point plan for Iran’s future, a democratic vision for the post-theocratic era.“The time for change is now,” she declared, calling for solidarity with the Iranian people in their fight for freedom, democracy, and equality.
