In a powerful display of international solidarity, a majority of the Scottish Parliament members have thrown their support behind Mrs. Maryam Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan, which aims to establish a democratic republic in Iran and promote global peace and security.

Out of 129 representatives, 68 have endorsed the initiative, signaling strong support for human rights and democratic values. The parliamentarians have called for the designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization, emphasizing the need for global recognition of the Resistance Units’ efforts against the IRGC. Among the notable signatories are two ministers, three party leaders, and seven committee chairs.

Condemning Human Rights Violations

The majority statement from the Scottish Parliament condemns severe human rights violations in Iran, particularly the brutal suppression of women. They demand an investigation into the 1988 massacre, where 30,000 political prisoners were killed. “The ruthless oppression of the Iranian people, including ethnic and religious minorities, cannot be ignored,” said one of the ministers supporting the statement.

The parliamentarians also denounced the recent sham trials held by the Iranian regime against the leadership of the Iranian resistance and over 100 members of the People’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI/MEK). These trials are viewed as pretexts for further terrorist actions against Iranian dissidents, especially those in Ashraf-3, Albania. “These farcical trials are nothing but a cover for the regime’s terrorist intentions,” remarked a committee chair.

Emphasizing the necessity of recognizing the right of the Iranian people to resist, the Scottish MPs highlighted the role of MEK Resistance Units in confronting the IRGC. “With all political avenues for change blocked by the regime, the international community must acknowledge the right of the Iranian people to rise up,” stated one of the party leaders.

The statement also addresses the suppression of women, noting that women in Iranian resistance movements hold leadership positions, contrasting sharply with their treatment under the current regime. Amnesty International’s December 2023 report on sexual violence against women in Iranian prisons underscores the regime’s misogynistic policies.

Global Implications

The Scottish MPs’ statement warns about the Iranian regime’s destructive role in the Middle East and calls for oil sanctions and the terrorist designation of the IRGC. They cite a 2021 incident where an Iranian diplomat was sentenced for attempting to bomb an event in France, highlighting Iran’s state-sponsored terrorism in Europe.

“We must support the Ten-Point Plan for a democratic Iran,” urged another minister. “This plan advocates for a non-nuclear country, gender equality, and the autonomy of Iran’s ethnic groups. It’s a vision for peace and stability not only for Iran but for the entire world.”

As the world watches, the support from Scottish Parliamentarians underscores a growing international call for justice, human rights, and democratic governance in Iran.
