Rebellious youth in Iran target regime centers in different cities—November 2023

As Iran commemorates the fourth anniversary of the nationwide protests in 2019, a wave of unrest spearheaded by rebellious youth is sweeping across the country. The focal point of their actions is the targeted disruption of the regime’s centers of repression and terrorism.

In Tehran, the Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) Quds Garrison and Quds Basij headquarters faced explosive attacks on Monday night. The Quds Garrison, a key pillar of the IRGC in Greater Tehran, has a mission to suppress protesters and rebellious youth. This site played a central role in the suppression, arrest, and torture of protestors during uprisings in 2017, 2019, and 2022. It notably focused on universities and students during the 2022 uprising, particularly those at Sharif University.

Adjacent to the Quds Garrison, the Quds Basij area, one of the 22 Basij commands in Greater Tehran, controls suppressive operations in the region. Their tasks include creating public fear through patrols, controlling public spaces, and enforcing the regime’s dress code, often harassing women and girls.

Rebellious youth in Tehran also targeted other Basij bases and a center of propaganda and fundamentalism. Propaganda posters of the regime’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei were torched across the city, signaling deep-seated resentment and a determination to challenge the regime.

In southern Iran’s Bushehr, the youth targeted a “Students Basij” base, focused on repressive measures against university students opposing the regime. In Karaj, northern Iran, a “bonyad” (IRGC-run financial institution) was targeted for its involvement in looting national assets and supporting repressive forces.

Cities like Mashhad, Isfahan, Qazvin, Zahedan, and Hamedan witnessed rebellious youth setting fire to Basij bases, regime judiciary centers, and institutions enforcing fundamentalist rules.

The unrest traces back to November 15, 2019, when fuel price hikes triggered protests that swiftly evolved into a nationwide movement demanding the regime’s overthrow. Despite brutal suppression, with 1,500 protesters killed and tens of thousands arrested, the regime remains challenged by persistent dissent.
