In a recent development, the Friends of a Free Iran Committee in Nordic Countries (FoFIAF) has voiced grave concerns about the Iranian regime’s crackdown on its principal resistance movement, highlighting a surge in state-sanctioned executions in Iran.

In a letter addressed to the European Union leadership, along with the Prime Ministers of Norway and Iceland, FoFIAF has called for immediate action to safeguard the rights and freedoms of Iranian refugees and to hold the Iranian regime accountable for its alleged crimes against humanity.

According to the FoFIAF letter, the Iranian regime’s judiciary has indicted a staggering 104 members of the Iranian Resistance, raising concerns of unjust trials and human rights violations. FoFIAF warns that the regime may employ any possible means of manipulation and false information to have these individuals extradited to Iran, where they could face severe repercussions.

FoFIAF’s primary call to action is the condemnation of the Iranian regime’s attempts to abuse European judicial systems to extend its oppressive reach beyond its borders. They emphasize the urgent need to protect the rights and freedoms of Iranian refugees, both in the European Union and in Albania, in accordance with international conventions. This call resonates with the global commitment to providing sanctuary for those fleeing persecution.

Furthermore, FoFIAF is advocating for the establishment of an international tribunal to investigate and try the leaders of the Iranian regime responsible for four decades of alleged crimes against humanity. Notably, they single out Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, President Ebrahim Raisi, and the head of the Judiciary, Gholam-Hossein Mohseni Ejei, who are directly implicated in the 1988 massacre.

The international community has a crucial role to play in addressing these pressing issues. Condemning the Iranian regime’s actions and protecting the rights of Iranian refugees are vital steps toward promoting human rights and justice. Establishing an international tribunal could serve as a means to hold those responsible for alleged atrocities accountable.

As the situation continues to evolve, it is imperative for the international community to heed FoFIAF’s call and take collective action to ensure that the rights of Iranian refugees are upheld and that those responsible for alleged crimes are brought to justice on the global stage.
