The regime of Iran, led by Ebrahim Raisi, has been significantly destabilized by the nationwide protests that erupted in September 2022, according to a recently released document by “GhyamSarnegouni,” an Iranian dissident group.
On May 29, the group successfully breached the servers of the presidential offices, revealing the regime’s desperate and misleading strategies.
The disclosed document was an official directive issued by Ali Bahadori-Jahromi, the spokesperson of Raisi’s government. It implores cabinet members to fabricate narratives about the protests and attribute the country’s problems to external enemies. The desperate tone of the directive signifies the regime’s struggle to retain control amidst increasing social unrest.
He concedes that the uprising stems from deeper societal issues, thereby indirectly admitting the regime’s failure to address the Iranian public’s concerns effectively.
The letter further states, “The enemy’s main goal is to undermine the principles of independence and authority in Islamic Iran and hinder progress,” outlining the regime’s apprehension towards losing power.
Contradicting Raisi’s claims about financial prosperity, Bahadori-Jahromi explicitly instructs cabinet members to avoid publicizing any negative news about Iran’s economic conditions or social restrictions. The spokesperson advises his colleagues to highlight only the “positive and promising news” and the “successful outcomes achieved by Iran.”
Bahadori-Jahromi also urges a strong show of support for the country’s military and police forces. He denounces any actions that could weaken national security and criticizes attacks on the IRGC, Basij, army, and police forces. This statement further insinuates that the government views the Revolutionary Guards and other security forces as integral to the current crisis solution.
It also suggests an inherent resistance to change from within the regime, indicating that hopes for the Revolutionary Guards and other security forces to rebel are likely misplaced. Ultimately, the regime’s attempts to manage the narrative around the nationwide uprising reflect its struggle to hold onto power amidst a determined population yearning for change.
