Mothers of November 2019 victims gathered on Wednesday to pay tribute to Amir Hossain Zarezadeh, who was killed during the protests in November 2019. His mother organized a memorial service for him in his childhood home. Amir Hossain’s family had already announced that a memorial service for him will be held near Emamzadeh Ebrahim in Karaj. The regime’s security forces, however, barred the bereaved family from holding their funeral in Karaj.

I don’t need your permission, you killed our children

Amir Hossain’s courageous mother also placed a banner near her home, paying honor to all the martyrs of the November 2019 protests. Authorities attempted to intimidate her, but she boldly called for justice for her killed son and other martyrs in a video posted on social media.“I will continue to put the [banner] up. I will continue installing pictures and continue to film them. I will continue putting pictures of youth killed in November [2019]. I don’t need your permission. You killed our children. What else do you want from us?” she tells the regime agent on the phone.

“You can send a thousand forces to my house. Do you have a fear of my son’s picture or his grave? “I put up a big banner of the young people who were killed in November, and I’ll keep doing it because they were like my children,” she adds. Being a mother, as Robert A.Heinlein put it, is an attitude, not a biological relationship. In her statements, Amir Hossain’s mother demonstrated this.

 

These mothers  have echoed their children’s cries for regime change

Amir Hossain Zarezadeh was one of around 1500 nonviolent demonstrators killed by the regime’s security forces in November 2019, many of whom were shot in the head and chest. Young people made up the majority of the victims.

Brave mothers have been demanding justice for their children since their deaths, holding the authorities accountable. These courageous women have echoed their children’s cries for regime change, continuing their children’s fight for freedom.

Despite being threatened or sometimes arrested, these mothers, known as “Mothers for Justice,” continue their activism. These heroic women called for a boycott of the regime’s sham presidential election in June 2021 and backed regime change on the eve of the regime’s phony presidential election.

 

The international community should support their efforts

“We are voting for regime change.” My Mehrdad’s blood was spilled unjustly, and I will not forgive him. My vote is for the regime’s overthrow. “Voting is putting your finger in the blood of your compatriots who were murdered innocently during the bloody November [2019 uprising], like Mehrdad and many others,” one of the moms remarked.

The “Mother for Justice” movement in Iran is the culmination of decades of rage directed at Iran’s Islamic dictatorships. They reflect the people of Iran’s demand for regime change. The justice-seeking movement has become “the regime’s nightmare,” according to Pejman Gholipour’s mother, who fears the regime’s demise.

The international community should support their efforts to bring Iran’s corrupt rulers to justice. This will undoubtedly put a stop to decades of systematic impunity in Iran, which has resulted from the international community’s silence on Iran’s continued crimes against humanity.
