PMOI Resistance Units commemorate Mohammad Mossadegh on the anniversary of his passing

On the 58th anniversary of Dr. Mohammad Mossadegh’s passing, members of Iran’s Resistance Units staged commemorative activities across multiple cities, honoring the former prime minister’s enduring legacy as a symbol of national sovereignty and defiance against foreign intervention.

Dr. Mossadegh, Iran’s democratically elected prime minister, led the nationalization of the country’s oil industry in the early 1950s, a move that directly challenged Western interests. His tenure was abruptly ended in 1953 when he was ousted in a coup orchestrated by the Shah’s regime with foreign backing. Despite the decades that have passed, his legacy remains deeply ingrained in the collective memory of Iranians striving for independence and justice.

In Tehran, Resistance Units displayed banners and graffiti conveying messages of admiration and commitment to Mossadegh’s principles. Slogans such as “Mossadegh, bless your soul, your path continues” and “Our blood-soaked generation holds the torch of Kuchak Khan and Mossadegh” appeared across the capital, emphasizing the ongoing struggle for sovereignty and freedom. The city was adorned with images of Mossadegh alongside Massoud Rajavi, the Iranian Resistance Leader, reinforcing the ideological link between the two figures in the fight against autocracy.

A notable quote from Mossadegh’s trial was prominently displayed: “Where there is a matter of rights, I renounce everything. I have nothing except my homeland before my eyes.” This declaration, made before the Shah’s court, continues to resonate with Iranians who oppose both the clerical regime and monarchist rule, viewing Mossadegh as an unwavering advocate for national rights.

Beyond Tehran, similar tributes took place in Lahijan, Mashhad, Karaj, Rasht, Babol, and Saravan, where Resistance Units erected banners celebrating Mossadegh’s role in Iran’s struggle for self-determination. Many of these displays included his image alongside Rajavi’s, symbolizing a continuity of resistance against oppressive rule.

A recurring slogan across multiple cities “No to the mullahs, no to the Cossack (the Pahlavi regime), bless your soul Mossadegh”—highlighted the rejection of both the clerical establishment and the previous monarchy. This sentiment reflects a broader push for a political alternative that prioritizes democracy and national sovereignty.

The commemorations occurred amid rising political tensions in Iran, with growing dissent against the ruling regime. The People’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI/MEK) and its Resistance Units have increasingly used symbolic occasions like this to rally support for their vision of a free and democratic Iran. By invoking Mossadegh’s legacy, they reaffirm their commitment to his ideals of independence, justice, and self-determination, positioning him as an enduring inspiration in the nation’s quest for sovereignty.
