In recent weeks, a surge of disinformation and hostility has dominated Persian-language social media, targeting the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and its core organization, the People’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

This campaign coincides with significant strides by the NCRI to challenge Iran’s regime and advocate for a democratic future. On December 11, the Organization of Iranian American Communities (OIAC), a U.S.-based NCRI affiliate, hosted a bipartisan event in the Senate, uniting senators, military leaders, and national security experts in endorsing regime change in Iran. Participants expressed their support for Mrs. Maryam Rajavi’s ten-point plan for transitioning from theocracy to democracy. This was followed by a similar bipartisan event in the House of Representatives on December 17, where lawmakers highlighted the Iranian regime’s threats and the need for viable democratic alternatives.

On December 20, the NCRI’s Washington office unveiled intelligence gathered by the PMOI’s networks within Iran. This information exposed clandestine nuclear activities, prompting calls for global action to prevent Tehran’s acquisition of nuclear weapons. These revelations intensified the Iranian regime’s backlash, with state-backed cyber campaigns amplifying accusations against the PMOI, branding them a “terrorist cult.”

Critics of the NCRI and PMOI allege that supporting these groups risks replicating the chaos of Syria’s revolution. However, such narratives inadvertently highlight the PMOI’s influence. For decades, Iran’s intelligence apparatus has invested heavily in discrediting the NCRI, portraying it as a marginal group. Yet the regime’s relentless smear campaigns raise questions: If these groups lack public support, why the sustained efforts to vilify them?

The answer lies in the PMOI’s resilience. Their recent exposure of Iran’s nuclear program underscores their extensive reach and unwavering commitment. Despite immense risks, members and supporters persist, driven by a vision of freedom and democracy. Their efforts have not gone unnoticed, with American lawmakers openly supporting the NCRI’s mission.

The Iranian Resistance, rooted in nearly six decades of opposition, has outlasted many other movements through its cohesive vision of a democratic Iran. The regime’s sophisticated campaigns to undermine this opposition ironically affirm the threat the NCRI poses to its rule.

True change in Iran will require relentless determination, transcending fleeting social media trends. For the NCRI and its allies, the path is clear: endure, adapt, and persist. Their struggle is not just against tyranny but for a future of justice, democracy, and dignity for the Iranian people.
