The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors has adopted a resolution censuring Iran for persistent violations of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and non-cooperation with investigations.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), hailed this as a long-overdue step, affirming the Iranian Resistance’s long-standing warnings about the regime’s deceptive nuclear ambitions. The resolution, passed despite the regime’s concerted efforts to prevent its adoption, condemns Tehran’s repeated breaches, including non-compliance with previous resolutions. It mandates a comprehensive assessment of Iran’s nuclear program, including undeclared activities, with a report due by spring 2025.

Addressing the European Parliament on November 20, 2024, Mrs. Rajavi called for immediate activation of the snapback mechanism outlined in UN Security Council Resolution 2231. She urged the reinstatement of six prior resolutions targeting the regime’s nuclear projects and pressed for the UN Security Council to address Iran’s activities under Chapter Seven of the UN Charter to uphold global security.

The NCRI leader commended Iranians advocating for accountability outside IAEA headquarters, emphasizing their unwavering dedication to the Iranian people’s demands for transparency and freedom. She underscored the significant role of the Iranian Resistance, which in 1991 first revealed the regime’s covert Weapons of Mass Destruction projects, including major nuclear facilities at Natanz and Arak in 2002. Since then, the regime has made no voluntary disclosures to the IAEA, instead resorting to secrecy and deceit.

Highlighting the immense cost of these pursuits—estimated at over two trillion dollars—Mrs. Rajavi criticized the regime’s unpatriotic priorities, diverting resources from the Iranian people toward nuclear weapons development. She referenced a 2019 confession by Ali Akbar Salehi, Iran’s former nuclear chief, who admitted to secretly retaining equipment banned under international agreements, revealing the depths of the regime’s duplicity.

The NCRI stands ready to assist the IAEA in tracing sources of uranium enrichment and identifying individuals behind these illicit activities. Mrs. Rajavi stressed the urgency of global action to prevent a terrorist dictatorship from acquiring nuclear weapons and to support the aspirations of the Iranian people for peace, justice, and democracy. As the resolution signals increased international scrutiny, the coming months will be pivotal in determining whether diplomatic pressure and renewed global resolve can halt Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
