On the second anniversary of the tragic “Bloody Friday” in Zahedan, the people of the Baluch region once again turned their Friday prayers into a powerful protest against Iran’s regime.
On Friday, September 27, 2024, demonstrators filled the streets, chanting slogans like, “We swear on the blood of the martyrs that we will stand till the end” and “Political prisoners must be freed,” as they honored those who lost their lives on that fateful day in 2022.
Resistance Units carried placards that resonated with the Iranian people’s ongoing struggle for democracy. Phrases like “From Zahedan to Tehran, my life for Iran” and “The message of Bloody Friday’s martyrs: No surrender” reinforced the collective desire for a democratic republic. This protest was not only a tribute to the martyrs but also a bold reminder of the Iranian people’s commitment to resisting the regime.

Iran’s rebellious youth, integral to these demonstrations, marked the anniversary by setting fire to regime symbols and outposts in cities like Zahedan and Iranshahr. Their defiance extended the message of an enduring struggle, aiming to awaken the nation to the continued oppression and calls for justice for the Bloody Friday victims.
The 2022 incident, known as Bloody Friday, remains a dark chapter in Iran’s recent history. On September 30, 2022, a peaceful protest erupted in Zahedan in response to the alleged rape of a 15-year-old Baloch girl by a local police commander. Demonstrators gathered in front of the city’s 16th precinct and demanded justice. In response, the regime’s security forces unleashed brutal violence, opening fire on unarmed civilians, resulting in over a hundred casualties, including deaths and injuries.
Among those martyred were seven-year-old Hasti Narouyi and 24-year-old Khodanur Lojei. Hasti, killed during the protests, became a symbol of the regime’s heartless oppression of children. Khodanur, known for his defiant spirit, had previously been publicly tortured and became an international symbol of resistance.
Despite the regime’s attempts to suppress the memory of Bloody Friday, the Baluch people have continued their fight. Their defiance over the past two years, especially during Friday prayers, sends a clear message: the road to freedom and justice in Iran will only be realized through the unwavering struggle against oppression.
