Paris, June 29, 2024 – At the Free Iran 2024 World Summit, Linda Chavez, Chair of the Center for Equal Opportunity and former Director of the White House Office of Public Liaison, emphasized the critical global importance of supporting the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and its President-elect Maryam Rajavi.

Chavez highlighted the unique bipartisan support for Rajavi’s cause and noted the remarkable unity among international representatives, including those from historically adversarial nations, in backing the Iranian Resistance’s fight against the oppressive regime.

Reflecting on the philosophy of Adam Smith, Chavez suggested that while altruism drives support for the oppressed Iranian people, it is also in the global community’s self-interest to oppose Iran’s leadership. She pointed out the regime’s role in global conflicts, including supporting terrorism and disrupting international shipping routes, emphasizing that Iran’s actions pose a worldwide threat.

Chavez warned that without regime change, Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons could escalate, presenting a grave danger not only to the region but to global security. She stressed that the success of NCRI’s vision for a democratic Iran would lead to a more peaceful world, ensuring that Iran no longer remains a threat to international stability.

Acknowledging the day’s diverse speakers, Chavez remarked on the unity among representatives from different political backgrounds and countries. She expressed admiration for Madame Rajavi, calling her an inspiration and a symbol of courage. Chavez noted the unusual consensus between American Democrats and Republicans, who typically disagree on most issues but unite in support of Rajavi’s cause. She also highlighted the participation of representatives from countries with historically tense relationships, underscoring the widespread recognition of the threat posed by the Iranian regime.

Chavez drew on Adam Smith’s philosophy to explain this unity. She noted that while altruism is a motivating factor, self-interest also plays a significant role. The global community recognizes the threat posed by Iran’s leadership, which extends beyond the suffering of the 90 million Iranian people. Iran’s support of terrorist groups, interference in shipping routes, and involvement in global conflicts like the war in Ukraine exemplify the regime’s broad reach and impact.

The former White House official detailed specific threats, such as Iranian-supported drone attacks in Ukraine and disruptions in international shipping by the Houthis in the Red Sea. She also cited Iran’s backing of Hamas and Hezbollah, contributing to instability in the Middle East. Chavez stressed that Iran’s regime, part of a new “axis of evil” including Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un, remains a global menace.

Chavez argued that regime change in Iran is crucial not just for the Iranian people but for global security. She warned of the dangers of a nuclear-armed Iran, which could escalate from conventional to nuclear threats. The possibility of Iran supplying nuclear weapons to terrorist groups adds to the urgency of supporting the NCRI and Madam Rajavi’s vision for a democratic Iran.

In conclusion, Chavez reaffirmed the importance of global support for the NCRI and Rajavi. She emphasized that a democratic Iran would not only ensure rights for its people but also contribute to global peace and stability. Expressing gratitude to Madam Rajavi and all supporters, Chavez confidently stated, “We will prevail.”
