The Free Iran World Summit 2024 convened an array of global political figures to deliberate on Iran’s future and propose alternatives to its current regime.

Central to the discussions was the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and its president-elect, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, hailed as a credible democratic alternative to the ruling clerical regime. A significant theme of the summit was the organizational prowess of the NCRI and its principal component, the People’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI/MEK), in challenging the Iranian government. The NCRI’s robust internal and external structure was underscored as pivotal for its effectiveness.

Former U.S. Vice President Mike Pence praised the Iranian resistance movement’s strength, asserting that the NCRI and MEK embody values cherished by Western democracies. Pence lauded Mrs. Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan, which promotes political, social, and economic equality for women, freedom of expression, and assembly, and guarantees every Iranian’s right to live freely according to their conscience.

Echoing Pence, former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo highlighted the MEK’s capacity to address Iran’s issues and broader Middle Eastern challenges. He emphasized that the NCRI’s platform is rooted in principles akin to those upon which American democracy stands, reinforcing the NCRI as a viable alternative.

Former Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper reaffirmed the NCRI’s organizational depth and democratic commitment, noting its extensive network within and outside Iran. Harper detailed the NCRI’s dedication to democratic elections, freedom of assembly and expression, human rights, gender equality, and the separation of religion and state. He stressed the NCRI’s vision of a non-nuclear Iran at peace with the international community.

The summit also highlighted the pivotal role of the MEK Resistance Units within Iran. Pence noted the persecution and martyrdom faced by Resistance Unit members, which has fortified the movement’s resolve and capabilities. Pompeo admired the MEK members’ bravery, stating they had become a formidable force against the regime, pushing for change.

Former Speaker of the UK House of Commons, John Bercow, extolled the NCRI’s Ten-Point Plan as a comprehensive and articulate democratic blueprint, emphasizing the sovereignty and electoral rights of the Iranian people.

Former British Prime Minister Liz Truss underscored the necessity of supporting the Iranian resistance and intensifying pressure on the regime through sanctions and funding restrictions. Baroness O’Loan of the UK House of Lords endorsed the NCRI’s legitimacy, pointing to the regime’s relentless attacks as evidence of the NCRI’s effectiveness.

Ingrid Betancourt, former Colombian Senator, highlighted the international support for Mrs. Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan, noting significant backing from legislative bodies in France, the U.S., and the UK, alongside numerous Nobel laureates.

The summit concluded with a strong endorsement of the NCRI as the most prepared and viable alternative to Iran’s current regime. Speakers emphasized the NCRI’s organizational strength, democratic commitment, and growing international recognition. As John Bercow aptly put it, the quest for a free, secular, and prosperous Iran led by the NCRI will persist until it is realized.
