At the Free Iran 2024 World Summit in Paris, former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo delivered a rousing speech on June 29, advocating for stronger international support for the Iranian resistance movement.
Pompeo highlighted the ongoing struggles and bravery of resistance members, criticizing Western nations for their insufficient support. Pompeo began by acknowledging the resilience and courage of the Iranian resistance, particularly the People’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI/MEK). He stressed that the resistance has become a formidable threat to the regime, which he described as illegitimate and oppressive. “The Iranian people deserve to determine their future,” Pompeo asserted, urging global efforts to help overthrow the current regime.
Drawing on his experiences from 1988, patrolling the East German border, Pompeo expressed optimism about the imminent collapse of the Iranian regime. He likened the situation in Iran to the fall of the Berlin Wall, suggesting that regime change can happen swiftly and unexpectedly. He praised Maryam Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan as a viable blueprint for Iran’s future, promoting democracy and human rights.

Pompeo also took a critical stance on the West’s approach to Iran, particularly the policy of appeasement. “When one begins to allow deterrence to deteriorate, the Iranian people suffer,” he remarked, emphasizing that a firm stance is necessary to support the resistance. He lauded the resilience of the Iranian people, stating, “A noble cause cannot be destroyed, and I know that none of you will let that happen.”
The speech also featured personal anecdotes, including Pompeo’s surprise at being a criminal defendant in Tehran and his reflections on the political landscape of Iran since his youth. He recounted the execution of General Qasem Soleimani as a pivotal moment in demonstrating American resolve against the Iranian regime’s aggression.

Pompeo concluded by expressing confidence in the eventual success of the Iranian resistance. “I think you have them scared,” he said, referring to the regime’s leaders. He called for continuous support and solidarity with the Iranian people, predicting that their struggle would lead to a free and democratic Iran.
The summit was attended by notable figures, including former Vice President Mike Pence and former Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, who also expressed their support for the Iranian resistance. Pompeo’s speech was met with enthusiastic applause, reflecting the shared hope for a brighter future for Iran.
