On June 29, the Free Iran 2024 World Summit in Paris became a platform for former UK Parliament Speaker John Bercow to voice his robust support for the Iranian Resistance and its President-elect, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi.
Bercow’s speech resonated with many as he praised the bravery of resistance fighters and condemned the Iranian regime’s oppressive practices. Bercow began by commending the resistance fighters’ extraordinary heroism, acknowledging the significant risks they face daily.
“Bravery, vision, fortitude, and if I may say so, as one who lives in safety, these are people, one and all, my friends, who daily exhibit the courage to burn, to take the risks which they do, knowing that the next day could be their last because there is a higher goal,” Bercow stated. He highlighted the regime’s brutal tactics, including mass murder and extrajudicial killings, emphasizing that such actions will not go unpunished.
Criticizing the Iranian regime’s lack of imagination and oppressive policies, Bercow challenged the international community’s acceptance of the regime’s “TINA” (There Is No Alternative) mantra. He asserted that the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and Maryam Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan represent a viable and democratic alternative. The plan advocates for regular universal suffrage, freedom of expression, an independent judiciary, and a non-nuclear state committed to peace.

“The alternative to wanton killing of people is to stop the wanton killing of people,” Bercow declared, calling for rigorous sanctions and support for those fighting for freedom within Iran. He stressed the broad and diverse support for the cause, uniting people across political backgrounds and geographies. Bercow’s remarks underscored the universal appeal of the NCRI’s vision for Iran’s future.
In his concluding remarks, Bercow expressed hope for a future gathering in Tehran to celebrate the success of the resistance movement. “We will not stop making the argument until that government is achieved,” he asserted, urging continued perseverance in the fight for freedom. Bercow’s speech, filled with passion and determination, was a call to action for the international community to support the Iranian people in their quest for democracy and justice.
