In a recent bipartisan summit in Washington, DC, Mike Pompeo, the former Secretary of State, delivered a powerful critique against the Iranian regime, focusing on its domestic repression and international terror activities.

Pompeo, addressing a concerned audience about Iran and the broader Middle East’s future, did not hold back in his assessment of the threats posed by Tehran. Pompeo accused Tehran of projecting a false image of stability despite widespread protests since 2017, aiming to intimidate regional states and assert dominance.

He highlighted the Iranian government’s role in orchestrating conflicts across the Middle East, from Israel to the Red Sea, as a distraction from its internal vulnerabilities. According to Pompeo, Tehran’s strategy involves spreading terror through its proxies to extract concessions and instill fear internationally.

Furthermore, Pompeo rebuffed Tehran’s narrative of the regional conflicts as merely a struggle between Israel and the Palestinian people, asserting that the root of global terror lies in Tehran. He praised the Iranian Resistance for its courage and resilience against the theocratic regime, underscoring the importance of international support for this movement.

The former Secretary of State shed light on the regime’s tactics against the main opposition movement, MEK, including sham trials and attempts at legal intimidation to justify terror. He expressed hope that countries like the United States and those in Europe would recognize and reject these maneuvers.

Pompeo also lamented Iran’s dire human rights situation, noting a significant increase in executions as a sign of the regime’s fear of its people. He criticized recent sham elections in Iran, pointing out the lack of meaningful voter participation and praising the opposition’s longstanding boycott efforts.

Dismissing the regime’s propaganda against the Iranian Resistance, Pompeo highlighted the contradiction in the regime’s actions—spending vast resources to quash an “alternative” they claim does not exist. He argued that this fear and attention towards the Resistance signify its validity and potential as a real alternative to the current regime.

Concluding his address, Pompeo called for global solidarity with the Iranian people in their fight for freedom, drawing parallels to historical freedom movements, including the American fight for independence. He stressed that the strength of Iran lies with its people and not the oppressive regime, advocating for support towards the Iranian freedom fighters rather than rewarding terrorist activities.

Pompeo’s remarks at the summit serve as a stark reminder of the complex and ongoing struggles within Iran and the broader Middle East, highlighting the need for international awareness and action in support of those fighting for democracy and human rights.
