In a recent wave of protests, Iranians and supporters of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) gathered in Geneva, marking the culmination of their four-day campaign.

The demonstration was a response to the scheduled visit of Iran’s regime representative to the Global Refugee Forum. This protest was particularly significant due to its timing and the high-profile nature of the event they were opposing.

The initial plan involved Ebrahim Raisi, President of Iran’s regime, leading the Iranian delegation. Raisi, widely condemned by human rights organizations for his alleged role in the massacre of political prisoners and protesters, became a focal point of international criticism. However, in a turn of events, Tehran canceled his trip.

This decision came on the heels of a formal complaint to the Swiss prosecutor and a compelling document signed by over 330 former leaders, parliamentarians, and human rights advocates, calling attention to Raisi’s contentious history.

Protesters in Geneva, buoyed by the success of their campaign, did not hold back in their expressions of joy. Their protest went beyond the immediate event, as they openly condemned the policy of appeasement towards the Iranian regime. Their demands were clear: an investigation into Raisi and the regime’s leaders for their alleged involvement in crimes against humanity and genocide spanning four decades.

The demonstration saw various political figures and NCRI members, including Iranian opposition President-elect Maryam Rajavi of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), whose message was delivered by Mahnaz Salimian, the NCRI’s Senior Secretary. Notably, Abolghasem Rezaei, the deputy secretary of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, addressed the crowd, sharing his insights and experiences as a former political prisoner under the clerical regime.

Paulo Casaca, a former Member of the European Parliament from Portugal, spoke at the rally, commending the recent victories and urging continued protests against the Iranian regime. Casaca highlighted a recent regime-sponsored assassination attempt against Dr. Alejo Vidal Quadras, emphasizing the need for global support for the Iranian people’s struggle for freedom.

Rémy Pagani, former Mayor of Geneva, applauded the international campaign that thwarted Raisi’s visit, urging continued resistance against Iran’s brutal religious dictatorship. The demonstrators also heard from Asghar Adibi, a former member of the Iranian national football team and NCRI member, and Révérend Daniel Neeser, who both underscored the significance of Raisi’s trip cancellation.

Niels Dudardel, former representative of the Swiss Federal Parliament and the NCRI’s lawyer in the case of Dr. Kazem Rajavi’s assassination, lauded the resistance’s recent victories. He pointed out the seriousness with which the Swiss prosecutor treated the complaint against Raisi, particularly regarding his alleged involvement in the 1990 assassination of Dr. Kazem Rajavi, the NCRI representative in Switzerland.

The demonstration concluded with speeches from representatives of Iranian communities and relatives of martyrs. Their resolute words reaffirmed their determination to continue the fight for freedom, honoring the legacy of the martyrs who laid the groundwork for their movement.
