As Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi prepared to address the United Nations General Assembly on September 19, thousands of Iranians and supporters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI) gathered outside the UN headquarters in New York to protest his presence.

They contended that Raisi, often accused of being a murderer, should not have the privilege of speaking at the UN. The protesters, holding placards with images of victims of the Iranian regime, sent a strong message: Raisi does not represent the Iranian people, and they demand justice for his alleged crimes.

The rally, featuring speeches from Iranian Resistance members, supporters, and U.S. politicians, lasted for several hours. In a video message to the rally, Maryam Rajavi, president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “Today is among the ugliest and darkest days of the UN because the bloodthirsty president of the mullahs’ regime is present there. This event blatantly contradicts the United Nations’ raison d’être and is an affront to the people of Iran.”

Rajavi stressed that Raisi’s hands are stained with the blood of thousands, including PMOI members and other combatant prisoners who were brutally massacred in 1988. She called for accountability, stating, “He must be held accountable for his crimes against humanity.”Rajavi’s message extended to the West, urging them to cease appeasement of the Iranian regime by discontinuing financial support and returning arrested spies, terrorists, and agents.

Senator Robert Torricelli, addressing the rally, vehemently criticized the UN for hosting Raisi, asserting, “The voice you will be hearing is the same voice that ordered the murder of thousands across Iran. It is his voice who murdered them. Understand who Raisi is. He is a murderer.”

The protest outside the UN highlighted the resolute determination of Iranians and their supporters to seek justice, hold Raisi accountable for his alleged crimes, and call for an end to Western support for the Iranian regime.
