In a marked display of international solidarity, a plethora of prominent figures convened at the conference titled “Iran Nationwide Uprising, One Year After” on Thursday, September 7, 2023.

The conference not only shed light on the yearlong surge in the uprising in Iran but also emphasized the extensive resistance spearheaded by the People’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI/MEK) and the NCRI, entities ingrained in the fight for Iranian freedom for over half a century.

Iranian opposition President-elect Maryam Rajavi of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), spearheaded the conference, delineating the pervasive culture of resistance and perseverance that has burgeoned within the Iranian populace over the past year. The alarming uptick in suppression by the regime has not dampened the spirit of the young generation, who continue to join the ranks of the Resistance Units and MEK network.

Rajavi further underscored the Iranian regime’s shifting stance towards the PMOI and the NCRI, evidenced by the recent acknowledgment by parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf of PMOI’s significant role in orchestrating protests. Despite the regime’s attempt to undermine the opposition, the international community’s spotlight is firmly on its efforts to foster democracy and freedom in Iran.

Today, even the regime officials express concerns over MEK's expanding roles in the uprisings," she stated.

US Congressman Randy Weber delivered a fervent address, condemning the regime’s trampling of the civil liberties of its citizens and affirming bipartisan support in the US Congress for a free Iran. “This time, the focus is on discarding all forms of dictatorship in Iran, be it from the mullahs or the monarchs,” stressed Weber, while urging global parliaments to echo the united stance of the US Congress in supporting the Iranian people’s quest for freedom.

Senator Gerry Horkan from Ireland lauded the NCRI’s initiative in raising awareness about the ongoing atrocities in Iran, echoing the sentiments of approximately 3600 parliamentarians across 40 nations in supporting the NCRI’s 10-point plan towards a democratic Iran.

Adding his voice to the chorus, former Irish Minister and ex-member of the European Parliament, Jim Higgins, lambasted Tehran’s attempts to malign the reputation of the Iranian Resistance, urging nations to eschew economic gains and unite in isolating the regime at an international level. He voiced confidence in the eventual realization of Rajavi’s 10-point plan, heralding a new era of freedom in Iran.

As the conference drew to a close, the air was thick with the promise of concerted international efforts to bolster the Iranian Resistance, a resounding affirmation that the aspirations for a free, democratic Iran, as fuelled by countless sacrifices, continue to burn fiercely, a beacon of hope in a long, dark night of oppression. The consensus echoed among the esteemed attendees was clear – the dawn of a new Iran, governed by the tenets of freedom, democracy, and human rights, is on the horizon, guided by the relentless spirit and resilience of its people.
