The Iranian Judiciary, notorious for executing political prisoners, recently announced plans to extradite members of the People’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

In a report published by the state-run Jam-e-Jam on July 30, it was revealed that arrest warrants for 105 MEK fugitives have been issued.

The Iranian regime, hoping to utilize this alleged “legal process” as leverage, expects Interpol to take action. Further, it seeks cooperation from nations hosting MEK members, particularly Albania.

The regime’s ultimate goal: to extend its repression of the MEK, thereby silencing dissent and denying fundamental rights on European soil.

Over the years, Iranian state officials have affirmed the central role of the MEK issue in their negotiations with other nations, stating that their handling of the MEK gauges a country’s sincerity.

Recently, documents published by the Iranian dissident group, Ghiam ta Sarnegouni, revealed a task force composed of various ministries, including the Ministry of Intelligence and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which aim to discredit the MEK. Interestingly, the regime has refrained from such legal measures against the MEK for the past 40 years, prompting many to ask: why now?

In the wake of uprisings and protests in 2022, the Iranian Resistance movement gained considerable momentum, both domestically and internationally, positioning itself as a significant threat to the regime.

Despite efforts to suppress the movement and promote alternatives, the Iranian Resistance's relevance continues to grow.

The regime’s attempts to quell the MEK’s influence through arrests, executions, and diplomatic maneuverings have been largely unsuccessful. Instead, they underscore the significance of the Resistance to the regime.

Over the past 43 years, the Resistance movement has withstood severe suppression and sustained high casualties, yet it remains the most significant independent Iranian entity challenging the regime.

The Iranian regime acknowledges this growing threat not from afar, but within its own borders. Despite shrinking support and morale, it clings desperately to psychological warfare in its domestic sphere. This sense of alarm was further emphasized by Rohullah Zamani Mousavi, a representative of Supreme Leader Khamenei, during a recent sermon.

On July 28, Mousavi reminded his followers of the grand ceremonies held each year to celebrate the regime’s persistence, stating the need for “more attention” to the increasing activities of the MEK throughout the country. This clear recognition of the Resistance’s power and influence paints a vivid picture of the regime’s fear and desperation.
