In a stirring speech at the Free Iran World Summit 2023, Mr. Petre Roman, former Prime Minister of Romania, championed the cause of Iranian freedom fighters and commended the leadership of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) President-elect, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi.

“Mrs. Rajavi, first of all, thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me this great opportunity to express my deepest appreciation for the fighters for freedom in Iran, who are standing against the barbaric cruelty of the Iranian regime,” Roman said.

The former Prime Minister put a spotlight on the stark realities of dictatorships, stating that these regimes claim there is no alternative purely to protect their own power. He drew a parallel between Iran’s situation and Romania’s history, citing the fall of the Ceausescu dictatorship under the pressure of the people’s will for freedom.

“Why do all dictatorships, including the Iranian one, chant the same mantra that there is no alternative?” Roman asked rhetorically. “They simply think and are convinced that they can eliminate, and erase any alternative to their own personal power against the people.Reminiscing about the Romanian revolution, he painted a vivid picture of the defiance and resilience of the Romanian people, their victory against oppression, and how dictatorships can crumble unexpectedly.

“I myself was on a barricade in the center of Bucharest on December 21, 1999… When 20 minutes to midnight, they started to kill us and initiated a massacre against us… At that moment, nobody could have believed that just 12 hours later… the regime would collapse instantly,” Roman recounted.

He voiced his belief that Iran is on a similar path, asserting that the fight for freedom always prevails and that the current circumstances point towards a nearing collapse of the oppressive regime.”I am glad, full of confidence, that similar events can and will happen because the fight for freedom always prevails,” he emphasized. “The current circumstances in Iran point to the fact that the change of regime, the collapse of this barbaric cruelty, is very, very near.”

Roman ended his compelling address by extending his deepest respect to the resistance fighters, underlining his unwavering faith in their struggle and the imminent triumph of freedom.
