Ryszard Czarnecki, a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from Poland, and former Minister for European Integration, expressed his firm support for the Iranian Resistance Movement and their vision for a democratic Iran at the Free Iran World Summit 2023.

He lauded the leadership of Iranian opposition President-elect Maryam Rajavi of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), and her Ten-Point Plan, which has garnered substantial backing from the European Parliament.

“Today, after the developments of the past nine months, there is no doubt that the future of Iran lies in this alternative,” Czarnecki asserted during his address. The Iranian Resistance Movement, led by Rajavi, aims to establish a democratic and secular republic, a goal that Czarnecki believes constitutes “a comprehensive vision for a better future for the Iranian people.”

Recalling a tragic attack on Ashraf3, Czarnecki highlighted the resilience and determination of the People’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI/MEK). The incident led to a death and multiple injuries amongst MEK members. Czarnecki noted the resulting outrage among his colleagues in the European Parliament and defended the PMOI’s political activities in Albania.

Czarnecki quoted from a 2016 letter from the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, who reassured him that the Iranian refugees would have all rights as per international legislation. Czarnecki implored Rama to fulfill his assurances from six years prior, notably including the right to political activity and freedom of expression.

Further evidence of his unwavering commitment to the Iranian Resistance, Czarnecki underscored the strong presence of the MEK members in Albania and their ongoing political meetings, attended by senior Albanian officials.

He also noted that Rajavi’s recent visit to the European Parliament was met with overwhelming support, more than many heads of state receive. Czarnecki attributed this to the admiration and support the European Parliament has for her and her movement. Finally, Czarnecki drew on the historical struggle for freedom in his native Poland, confirming his nation’s profound understanding of freedom’s immense value. He declared solidarity with the Iranian Resistance Movement, thereby reaffirming his commitment to championing democracy and freedom.

“I come from Poland, a nation that has fought for freedom for many, many years… We, in my country, truly understand the profound value of freedom, the most important wealth of all,” he stated. His support reflects the Polish ethos of recognizing and advocating for the fundamental rights of all people, regardless of their geographical or political confines.
