On Wednesday, July 12, the Italian Parliament hosted an eminent guest from the Middle East.

Iranian opposition President-elect Maryam Rajavi of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), was warmly welcomed by Italian parliamentarians and senators, including the former Foreign Affairs Minister, Senator Giulio Terzi.

A throng of her supporters, Iranian expatriates, and NCRI members gathered outside the Parliament building to express their support. The committee session, chaired by Fratelli d’Italia representative, Giangiacomo Calovini, aimed to deliberate over the current Iranian situation.

Addressing the committee, Rajavi highlighted the ongoing uprisings in Iran against the clerical dictatorship, the escalation of the organized resistance, and the Iranian regime’s inability to counter the socioeconomic and political challenges in the country. She underscored the necessity for a radical shift in European Union policy towards Iran, driven by the mullahs’ fear of a potential overthrow.

Rajavi was invited to participate in a hearing session of the Foreign Affairs Committee.

Mrs.Rajavi: was invited to participate in a hearing session of the Foreign Affairs Committee.

Rajavi made several strong recommendations to the Italian government and the EU. Her calls included recognizing the IRGC as a terrorist organization, acknowledging the rights of the Iranian people to self-defense and self-determination, enforcing UN Security Council resolutions, and imposing comprehensive sanctions targeting Iran’s oil and banking transactions.

Following the hearing, Rajavi attended a joint session of Italian parliamentarians and senators. Prominent figures like former British House of Commons Speaker, John Bercow, and former International Monetary Fund Director, Carlo Cottarelli, also delivered speeches. The meeting voiced overwhelming support for the Iranian people’s resistance and Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan.

In response, Rajavi emphasized the significance of such statements, not merely as symbolic gestures but as concrete policies adopted by the majority of Italian legislators. She praised the role of women in the resistance against the four-decade-old Iranian regime.

“The ultimate goal of Iranian women is the complete overthrow of the regime,” Rajavi stated, rejecting the compulsory hijab, religion, and government. She emphasized that despite the regime’s repressive measures, the organized resistance has continually intensified, determined to achieve regime change.

As the Iranian resistance intensifies its fight against the oppressive regime, Rajavi’s address to the Italian Parliament marks a crucial juncture in the movement’s international recognition and support.
