Iran is witnessing its 227th day of nationwide protests as industrial workers continue to strike and demand better pay and working conditions.

Workers from the oil, gas, petrochemical, steel, copper, and other industries have been protesting for over a week, amid the country’s struggling economy, soaring inflation, and high prices. The protests have spread to at least 282 cities, with over 750 people killed and over 30,000 arrested by the regime’s forces, according to opposition sources.

In response to the regime’s threats to lay off thousands of industrial workers, the People’s Mojahedin of Iran’s (PMOI/MEK) Resistance Units and youth have launched a new campaign of anti-regime measures across different cities in Iran on the brink of International Workers’ Day. Workers of the Razi petrochemical complex in Bandar Mahshahr, southwest Iran, have joined the nationwide campaign and are demanding that their salaries be raised.

Meanwhile, pensioners and retirees of the regime’s Social Security Organization in several cities, including Tehran and Isfahan, held rallies on Sunday protesting against high prices, poverty, corruption, inflation, poor living conditions, and officials’ refusal to address their demands. Retirees are among the worst-hit segments of Iran’s society, as they rely on government stipends that have not kept pace with inflation and the depreciation of the national currency.

Workers of the Haft Tappeh Sugarcane Company in the city of Shush are also on strike, protesting against a senior company official who recently insulted them. Nurses in Shiraz and Ahvaz held a gathering on Sunday protesting the regime’s unjust policies that deprive them of their deserved paychecks and pensions, while a group of disabled locals in the city of Torbat-e Jam held a gathering outside the regime’s Welfare Organization protesting against the violation of their rights.

Farmers from across Isfahan Province rallied in the provincial capital, protesting for their fair share of water for their lands and other grievances that have gone unanswered by regime officials. Locals in the Ekbatan district of Tehran were chanting anti-regime slogans, while a group of teachers held a rally outside the regime’s Education Ministry protesting against their low paychecks and poor living conditions.

In other reports from the Iranian capital, at least two all-girls schools have been the target of the regime’s latest organized and deliberate chemical gas attacks, leaving many students feeling extremely ill. The regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security has denied any chemical substance being used against school children across the country, while adding that there is a network behind the spread of rumours and accusations against the regime.

The employees of the Montazeri power plant in Isfahan were also on strike, protesting against their officials’ refusal to increase their paychecks despite the country’s devastating economic circumstances.Overall, the Iranian uprising continues to gain momentum as more and more workers, pensioners, and other segments of society join the protests, demanding their rights to be acknowledged and respected.
