On March 28, 2023, at the House of Commons of Canada, the Canadian MP, Honorable Judy Sgro, expressed her unwavering support for the Iranian people’s quest for freedom and democracy.

Hon. Sgro emphasized that the Iranian people’s dream is to have a free and democratic secular Iran, and she urged all parliamentarians to continue to be their voice and keep the pressure on the regime. She also expressed solidarity with the Iranian people’s rejection of all forms of dictatorship and their desire for a secular and democratic republic.

Hon. Sgro’s speech was focused on the need to support the Iranian people’s struggle for democracy and human rights. She mentioned her meeting with representatives of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) last year and talked about their quest for freedom and democracy for the Iranian people. Hon. Sgro praised the NCRI for their continued efforts in standing up against the brutal Iranian regime for over 40 years.

The NCRI is an umbrella organization for various Iranian opposition groups, including the People’s Mujahedin of Iran (PMOI/MEK), and is committed to a free, democratic, and secular Iran. The NCRI’s leader, Maryam Rajavi, has put forward a Ten-Point Plan for the future of Iran, which includes a free and democratic government, the separation of religion and state, and equal rights for all citizens, regardless of gender, ethnicity, or religion.

Hon. Sgro also highlighted the recent passing of H.Res.100 by the US Congress, which was endorsed by hundreds of congressmen and senators expressing support for the Iranian people .and the NCRI’s Ten-Point Plan. The motion called for the recognition of the Iranian people’s right to a democratic, secular, and non-nuclear republic.

Furthermore, Hon. Sgro expressed her concern for the Iranian people’s lack of basic human rights and freedom under the current regime. She pointed out that Canadians are fortunate to live in a country with freedom of speech, dress, and movement, but the Iranian people are fighting for these basic rights now.

Hon. Sgro ended her speech by calling on all parliamentarians to continue to support the Iranian people’s fight for democracy and human rights. She emphasized that the goal is to see a free and democratic Iran, where the people have the freedom to choose their own government and have equal rights, regardless of their religion or ethnicity. Hon. Sgro’s speech sends a strong message of support to the Iranian people and reinforces the importance of standing up for democracy and human rights worldwide.
