Former German Minister of Defense Dr. Franz-Josef Jung has spoken out against the invitation of Reza Pahlavi, the son of former Iranian dictator Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, to the Munich Security Conference, criticizing organizers for not fully condemning the Pahlavi dynasty’s past actions.

Dr. Jung made his remarks at a rally of supporters of the Iranian Resistance in Munich on February 17, where he praised the ongoing protests in Iran for democracy and human rights, which have lasted for five months. Speaking to a crowd of activists, politicians, and economists, Dr. Jung expressed his support for the Iranian people’s desire for freedom, democracy, and the rule of law, while also noting the threat that the Iranian regime poses to international security. He stated that the nationwide uprising of the Iranian people for the past five months has caused a rethink at the Munich Security Conference, leading to the regime’s disinvitation.

However, Dr. Jung criticized the invitation of Reza Pahlavi, whom he referred to as the son of a dictator responsible for numerous massacres across Iran. Without a clear condemnation of the Pahlavi dynasty’s past actions, Dr. Jung stated that Reza Pahlavi should not participate in the conference.

The Pahlavi dynasty came to power in a coup and was responsible for numerous massacres all across Iran.

Dr. Jung: The Pahlavi dynasty came to power in a coup and was responsible for numerous massacres all across Iran.

“The Pahlavi dynasty came to power in a coup and was responsible for numerous massacres all across Iran. Without a clear condemnation and distancing from this dictatorship, Reza Pahlavi should not participate in the Munich Security Conference. Furthermore, Reza Pahlavi has repeatedly confirmed that he needs the Islamic Revolutionary Guards and the Basij militias to secure his claim to power. The IRGC is responsible for the brutal crackdown on Iran’s uprising and is on the United States terrorist list. They are the main factor in the deaths of hundreds of men, women, and children. This cannot be the new beginning in Iran.”

Dr. Jung voiced his support for the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) President-elect Mrs. Maryam Rajavi's 10-point plan for democracy in Iran, stating that he stands firmly by these values. In his speech, he also expressed his solidarity with the protesters in Iran who have been risking their lives to demand freedom and democracy.
