Farmers have gained support across Iran as their demonstrations for water rights have persisted. Resistance Units, a network of the People’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI / MEK Iran), took part in events in support of the Isfahan demonstrators and in criticism of the regime’s violent suppression of their rightful demands.

Farmers in Isfahan have been opposing the regime’s harmful policies, which have resulted in water shortages, for several months. Farmers have congregated in the dry basin of the Zayandeh Rud river to express their dissatisfaction in recent weeks. Thousands of people in the province joined their movement, calling on the regime to remedy the farmers’ problems. Security officers attacked the demonstrators on Thursday, setting fire to their tents and forcing them to disperse. Farmers returned to the Zayandeh Rud basin on Friday to resume their demonstrations. The regime attempted to disperse the protesters by using force. Farmers chanted anti-regime chants in defiance of the regime’s oppressive forces.

The Resistance Units also marked the second anniversary of the November 2019 protests, a nationwide movement that brought the regime to its knees, throughout the week.

Messages from Maryam Rajavi, the president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), and Massoud Rajavi, the leader of the Iranian Resistance, were posted throughout the week by Iranian Resistance Units in various cities, honoring the memory of slain protesters and vowing to continue the fight for regime change and freedom.

“On the second anniversary of the November uprising, as a member of Resistance Units, I say that I’ll fight the regime until the last moment,” one of the Rasht Resistance Units said in a video statement.

Resistance Units, we fight the regime until the last moment

On November 15, 2019, protests erupted across Iran after the Iranian authorities announced a sharp increase in fuel prices. Iranians in many sections of the country flocked to the streets to express their discontent due to economic woes and decades of repression and corruption by the ruling clerics. The demonstrations swiftly grew into a nationwide revolt calling for the regime’s complete overthrow.

The regime only managed to stay in power by using force and opening fire on unarmed protestors as it was on the point of collapsing. In the few days that the protests went on, at least 1,500 people were killed by gunfire. Thousands more were hurt or arrested as a result of the incident. Many more died in the regime’s prisons as a result of torture.

Despite the regime’s ruthless repression of the protesters, demonstrations continue to take place across Iran, and a sense of resentment persists. Officials from the regime have warned that another, possibly more violent, protest is on the way.
