According to the Iranian opposition group The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), and the People’s Mujahedin of Iran (PMOI / MEK Iran), in an unexpected admission, cleric Mahmoud Nabaviyan, a member of the Special Commission for the Investigation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and a member of the board of the Iranian parliament’s Article-90 Commission, stated that the major goal of the Arak Reactor was to supply enough plutonium to make an atomic bomb.
9 kilograms of plutonium, enough for a bomb
Mahmoud Nabaviyan said in an interview with regime television, “How important is the (Arak) reactor to us?” Each year, it generated 9 kilograms of plutonium, enough for a bomb… Countries can make a weapon with three to seven kg of plutonium depending on their technology.
The presence of this reactor would send a message to Israel that “if you make a mistake against Iran, we have what we need (to retaliate)!”
Plutonium is a signal to the enemy
“30 tonnes of fuel are fed into the Bushehr reactor every year,” he continued, “and keeping the fuel waste in Iran sends a reminder to Israel and the adversaries… You can (create) plutonium from this fuel waste via a technique known as reprocessing. Plutonium is a signal to the enemy to avoid making any blunders. “It is the nation’s security coefficient.”
Throughout the conversation, he stressed Khamenei’s bogus and ludicrous fatwa against the use of the atomic weapon, which was plainly written for foreign consumption.
The Supreme Leader did not allow the nuclear industry to halt
On January 23, 2019, Ali Akbar Salehi, the former head of the regime’s Atomic Energy Organization, told state TV, “I purchased similar pipes for the Arak reactor fuel tank, and only one person in the country, the highest-ranking official in the system, knew about it.”
We removed the pipes and filled them with cement, but we now had new pipelines…The Supreme Leader did not allow the nuclear industry to halt because of the Nuclear Agreement, and our exploration and extraction are continuing as strongly as before.”
The regime’s true aims: to acquire an atomic bomb
The regime’s true aims for its nuclear program are once again revealed by Nabavian’s words, which prove that nuclear projects have always had only one goal: to acquire an atomic bomb.
Reinstating six Security Council resolutions, entirely suspending enrichment, and anywhere, anytime inspections are critical in preventing the Iranian dictatorship from attaining the atomic bomb, as the Iranian Resistance has often declared.
