MEK: Iranian Opposition’s Interim Session Full of Hope and Positivity
The main opposition to the Iranian regime, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), and the People’s Mujahedin of Iran (PMOI / MEK Iran), held its interim session on Wednesday 31st March. The meeting was held online and a number of participants from 12 different countries were involved, including from the Netherlands, France, Belgium, Sweden, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany.
Significant developments in the year
President-elect of the NCRI, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, opened the session, extending new year wishes and speaking about the probability of significant developments in the year to come.
She said that there will undoubtedly be further uprisings across the country as the people’s anger cannot be contained, especially after the leadership’s horrific handling of the Coronavirus health crisis. Mrs. Rajavi pointed out that the people of Iran are desperate to see the regime overthrown and that they want what has been called for over the past four decades – “democratic change, democratic revolution, and a democratic republic”.
25-year economic agreement with China
The participants in the meeting were in agreement that the regime’s announcement of the 25-year economic agreement with China spells bad news. They said that the agreement effectively gives away a huge amount of Iran’s assets and industries and that this goes very much against national interests.
The regime has tried to justify the agreement by emphasizing that the short-term cash injection is much needed. There is no doubt that the funds will be used to further repress the people and to consolidate its power.
The sham presidential elections
However, the NCRI and the participants of the event were positive about the regime’s failure to tighten control. The people have already been calling for a boycott of the upcoming presidential elections and the people are more than aware that there is no candidate that will ever take the people’s interests and prioritize them.
The regime certainly cannot convince the people to take part in the sham presidential elections, especially after the very low boycott of the previous parliamentary elections.
Over the past few months, there has been an increasing number of significant protests and demonstrations. If everything continues to move in the same direction, this activity will have devastating consequences for the regime and will spell positive change for the people of Iran.
The Resistance and the internal network
The session was concluded by Mrs. Rajavi who said that the final word in the matter will be by the people, the Resistance and the internal network of Resistance Units, and the “Army of Freedom”. She said that the November 2019 uprising not only showed the regime how serious the people are about regime change, but it was also able to show the people the power that they have and the “forces of rebellion” that can bring the regime down.
Mrs. Rajavi said: “In reality, this force of rebellion and uprising is lurking in the heart of Iranian society. This force has grown from the seeds of sacrifice sewn in Iranian society by 120,000 martyrs who laid down their lives for the cause of freedom, as well as from the long, steadfast struggle of the MEK and the NCRI.”
