MEK: Iran’s Cyber Army Tried to Change Narrative of Sistan and Baluchistan Uprising
The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), and the People’s Mujahedin of Iran (PMOI / MEK Iran), reported that the major protests in the province of Sistan and Baluchistan have greatly concerned the Iranian regime.
The uprising in Sistan and Baluchestan
It all started when Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces opened fire on fuel porters in Saravan. The incident was met with such disgust that the people of Saravan and neighboring areas took to the streets in anger.
These protesters were also attacked by security forces and the Iranian Resistance has reported that dozens of people have been killed or severely injured.
Videos and images have been widely circulated on social media, clearly showing the regime’s security forces attacking and killing innocent civilians.
Cyber army to spread lies
Nevertheless, the Iranian regime has been trying to change the narrative about what actually happened. The cybersecurity police have instructed its cyber army to spread lies about what happened and to hide the reality of the situation. All this effort is an attempt to stop the protests from spreading further across the country.
The regime’s cyber army has been told to impose a narrative indicating that no protests have taken place in the province of Sistan and Baluchistan and that content from the opposition is fake with the purpose of disrupting security and peace in the area.
In an instructive message to the cyber army, the forces have been told to use social media to give the impression that “there is a difference between mobs and people of Baluchistan, and we will not leave Baluchi people alone”.
Uprising was backed by the opposition
It has also been instructed not to follow dissidents’ accounts on social media and to refrain from retweeting any content that contributes to the spread of rumors.
The cyber police advised its army that this action was necessary because of the “high amount of fake news and content which contradicts the reality regarding the recent incidents in Saravan and “the activities of armed mobsters under the pretext of supporters of fake victims in Saravan border”. It said that these people are backed by the opposition and have the main goal of seeking regime change in Iran.
MEK played a major role in disseminating information
It is true that the main opposition to the Iranian regime, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI / MEK Iran), has played a major role in disseminating information. It’s reporting about the situation in Iran, not just during the Sistan and Baluchistan protests, but during every major and minor event, has helped shine light on the regime’s treatment of the people and its major human rights violations.
MEK Resistance Units active across the whole country
It has an internal network of Resistance Units that have been very active across the whole country, supporting the people and participating in anti-regime activities that reflect the overwhelming desire for regime change.
During the major uprisings that have taken place in Iran, the (PMOI / MEK Iran) has not only drawn the international community’s attention to what has been happening but has also helped in the organization of protests and gatherings.
It also reports on the situation, indicating the number of people that have been killed and injured. Clearly, the regime is threatened by this, but it cannot be silenced.
