The  People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI / MEK Iran), and the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) have reported that more than 203,400 people have now died after contracting COVID-19. The regime, however, is reporting that the official death toll is just 56,886.

In Tehran alone, almost 50,000 people have died after contracting the virus, with several other parts of the country also having worryingly high death tolls.

Supreme Leader has banned the import of vaccines

There was hope among the people of Iran that the vaccine would bring the end of the pandemic a little closer. However, all hopes have been dashed now that the Supreme Leader has banned the import of American and British vaccines.

President Hassan Rouhani said at the weekend that there would be no vaccine until at least the summer.

The regime is pinning its hopes on its domestic vaccines but it is not giving the people much hope. Domestic vaccines are being ridiculed by state media outlets and they have no scientific backing.

Expert and officials are worried

A member of the National Coronavirus Task Force, Minoo Mohraz, reiterated that the months to come will be difficult. She said that future waves are likely and that preparations must be made.

As it stands now, the regime has very few measures in place. For example, religious sites are still open in the city of Qom and ceremonies are still being held. This is obviously increasing the number of infections and subsequently the death toll.

The fourth wave on the way

The head of the Medical Apparatus Organization said a few days ago that the increase in the number of people requiring medical attention in the region over the past few days is worrying and that it should serve as an alarm bell. They said that it is clear that the spread of the virus is becoming more intense.

Regarding the continuing ceremonies and gatherings in Qom, the dean of the Medical Sciences University there said that measures should be taken.

The dean said that they will “personally be taking action” and will call on the public to refrain from gathering or attending ceremonies. They also said that the fourth wave is going to be more dangerous because of mutations and warned that it “can impose severe damage” to society.

Lack of protocols in place

The spokesperson of the National Coronavirus Task Force also agreed that Qom will experience a new peak because of the lack of protocols in place.

Alireza Raisi even went as far as to say those that are allowing mass gatherings for prayers and ceremonies “are literally responsible for the death of people in the next wave and they must be punished”.

The dean of Qazvin Medical Sciences University said yesterday that medical staff and families alike are concerned about the reopening of schools. Social media is full of parents expressing their worries and there are calls for schools to be forced to close.

Negligence and mismanagement

The regime’s handling of the crisis has been far from sufficient. In fact, its negligence and mismanagement have been criminal and the people’s lives are being put in grave danger.

The people have seen their problems worsened by the pandemic and their desire to see the regime fall is stronger than ever.
