Protests in Iran

Students in Iran continue protesting against the downing of a civil airliner by the criminal Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Iran

Students at the Sharif Industrial University continued to protest. The students have been voicing their indignation at the regime’s recent actions, in particular, the downing of the Ukraine International Airlines flight PS752 in which almost two hundred people died.

Resistance Units of the Mujahedin-e-Khalq (PMOI/MEK Iran), spread across the country. They have been supporting the people in their quest for regime change and are encouraging the people to rise against the regime.

The protesting students have been heard chanting anti-regime slogans such as “Grief, grief is with us today – brave students are grieving today”, “Death to Dictator”, “Cannons, tanks, firecrackers, mullahs must get lost” and “They killed our best and put mullahs in their place”.

The regime has been putting measures in place to suppress the protesters and to intimidate the MEK Iran and the Resistance Units into silence. However, this is having the opposite effect – the MEK Iran and the people are showing themselves to be more determined than ever.

The MEK Iran, its supporters and all activists in Iran have been targeted by the Iranian regime. People simply wanting to voice their opposition to the medieval rules that the regime imposes on the people, such as capital punishment and dress codes, are targeted. Religious and ethnic minorities are targeted, simply because of who they are.

In response to the protesting students, the regime has sent security forces that have attacked them with tear gas and batons. The protesters have even been shot at. There are now many more casualties to add to the growing list.

A great number of students have also been arrested across the country. The PMOI / MEK Iran has reported that there have been arrests in the cities of Tehran, Karaj, Mashhad, Zanjan, Babol, Rasht, Gorgan, Tabriz, Kermanshah, and Kashan.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), has sent messages of support to the MEK Resistance Units and all of the protesters in Iran. She frequently reminds the people that the MEK Iran is behind them, working to move them closer to regime change and to bring great change to their country.

She is also calling on the European Union and its member states, the UN Security Council, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, al all human rights organizations and defenders to take action to free the many people that are currently being held by the regime.  In the past couple of months alone, the Iranian regime has arrested thousands of protesters – many of whom are members or supporters of the MEK Iran.

The Iranian regime must be held responsible for its activities. It cannot continue to commit crimes and not be held accountable. The downing of a commercial flight and the consequential deaths cannot be passed off as an accident. The violent and brutal suppression of the MEK Iran cannot go unpunished. The atrocious suppression of even the most basic rights of its people cannot be ignored any longer.
