In the records of history, dictators often craft an illusion of invincibility around themselves, projecting an image of immortality.
Yet, once they are ousted, the undeniable truth of their fragility and weakness comes to light. This phenomenon is vividly illustrated in the context of Iran, where the echoes of a prophecy made forty-three years ago resonate with striking relevance today.
The mortal forces will be eliminated.” The unfolding events in Iran’s political landscape today are a testament to Khiabani’s foresight, particularly in the face of the disarray that has engulfed the ruling mullahs’ regime.
Recent admissions by regime authorities highlight the precarious state of their governance. Mohammad Taghi Akbarnejad, a mullah closely tied to the regime, ominously warned of the regime’s potential overthrow, stating, “If we continue down this path, our downfall is inevitable.” Similarly, journalist Shahab Tabatabaei expressed the blurring lines between reformist and hardliner figures in the eyes of the public, indicating a unified discontent against the regime.
These warnings underscore a decades-long struggle between the Iranian people and their resistance against the oppressive regime. The late Ayatollah Khomeini’s determination to annihilate the PMOI, exemplified by the massacre of over 30,000 political prisoners in 1988, failed to crush the resistance movement. Instead, the regime’s attempts to erase the PMOI from public memory inadvertently rallied more support for the Iranian Resistance.
This shift was echoed by Javad Muguee, a regime propagandist, who recognized the PMOI’s resurgence in public opinion, especially during the 2017 elections when the execution of PMOI members in 1988 became a focal point of contention.
The regime’s relentless efforts to vilify the PMOI, through extensive propaganda and farcical trials, have not only failed but backfired, as noted by Gholamali Haddad Adel, who lamented the ineffectiveness of the regime’s cultural and informational apparatus in discrediting the PMOI.
Khiabani’s belief in the indestructible spirit of the PMOI, despite the regime’s attempts to obliterate it, stands as a beacon of justice and perseverance. As Iran grapples with its internal crises, the celebration of Khiabani’s life and the sacrifices of PMOI martyrs by the youth underscores the enduring struggle between immortal heroes and mortal dictators, a struggle that is far from over.
