On December 9, a conference in the Netherlands on Saturday brought together a host of political dignitaries, including members of the Dutch and European Parliaments, to address the dire human rights situation in Iran.

The gathering marked a unified call for action against the Iranian regime’s continued violations of human rights.

Dorien Rookmaker, a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from the Netherlands, voiced grave concerns about the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) inviting Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to Geneva. She criticized the international community’s inaction, particularly over the 1988 massacre of political prisoners in Iran, and praised the Iranian Resistance’s relentless pursuit of justice and accountability.

Rookmaker highlighted the upcoming sham trial in Tehran against members of the Iranian Resistance in absentia. She pointed out the West’s lack of firm action as a reason for the regime’s boldness and called for a strong stance from European nations to reflect the values and sentiments of their people.

Dutch Senator Professor Case Delanghe emphasized the Iranian regime’s threat to regional stability and its support for terrorist organizations, echoing the National Council of Resistance of Iran’s (NCRI) assertion that Tehran is a primary source of conflict in the Middle East.

Ad Melkert, highlighted the need for accountability for Raisi’s role in the mass extrajudicial executions of 1988 and the crackdowns in 2019 and 2022.

Former Dutch Senator Bob van Pareren expressed solidarity with the Iranian people’s fight for freedom and democracy. He condemned Iran’s current regime for its daily human rights abuses and called for international action against its leaders.

Ad Melkert, former Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and former head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), called for the prosecution of Raisi for his alleged involvement in crimes against humanity.

Professor Henk de Haan, former Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Dutch Parliament, delivered a powerful critique of the Iranian regime’s oppressive tactics. He called for collective international action against the regime, which he labeled as “criminal,” and urged the Dutch government to classify it as a terrorist organization.

Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the NCRI, highlighted the plight of millions of Iranians under Raisi and the clerical regime. She criticized discussions of Raisi’s participation in the Global Refugee Forum in Geneva, stating that it would mock the right to asylum and encourage further human rights abuses.
