At a significant conference convened by the National Council of Resistance of Iran in Brussels earlier this month, Belgian MP Kathleen Depoorter ardently voiced her support for the Iranian Resistance, especially the MEK Resistance Units operating within Iran.

Depoorter stressed the essential role of women in the uprising against the Iranian regime, confronting the ingrained misogyny and oppression of women embedded in Iran’s fundamentalist doctrine. The MP celebrated the valiant women at the forefront of the protests and underlined the importance of global awareness and action in endorsing their pursuit of democracy and human rights.

“Islamic fundamentalism’s primary target has been women, and that’s why I’m here,” MP Depoorter stated during her speech. “The merciless suppression of women is enshrined in the Iranian misogynistic doctrine, and therefore it is not a coincidence that women have played a significant leading role in the uprising.”

She also paid tribute to Mrs. Rajavi, describing her as a “capable leader” who is admired by many and serves as a beacon for women’s rights globally. Depoorter recognized the fearless young women of the Resistance Units who staunchly advocated for a regime change.

“I do applaud them truly, and I’m proud of them. I’m proud of every girl who goes on the street… who screams out for her rights and wants democracy,” she remarked.

Depoorter critically observed the growing crisis surrounding the Iranian regime, noting the heightened tension between the people and the state. She commended the unity of the Iranian people from all backgrounds in their quest for a democratic and secular republic.

Drawing attention to the slogans chanted during the protests, she pointed out the clear message of the people: “Death to the oppressor, be it the Shah or the mullah,” signifying their reluctance to replace the ruling theocracy with monarchy. Another slogan emphasized by the MP, “With or without hijab, moving forward to a revolution,” clarifies that the uprising is not rooted in religious differences but in social and political demands.

Depoorter also criticized the European Union’s engagement with the Iranian regime despite its history of human rights abuses. “How can we justify the fact that any economic investments are made, that trade agreements are made with this regime, a regime that takes the life of its own citizens, of its own daughters, of its own sons,” she said, urging for an end to such hypocrisy.

In her concluding remarks, MP Kathleen Depoorter directly addressed the PMOI Resistance Units inside Iran. “Make no mistakes. You are the ones who fear the regime. And you are the ones who will ultimately determine your fate and rid yourself of this medieval regime,” she asserted, pledging unwavering support until the realization of a democratic Iran.

MP Depoorter’s message was clear: the world is watching, and the call for change and justice cannot be ignored.
