In a landmark gathering at the UK Parliament on September 12, British MP Anna Firth addressed attendees, emphasizing a significant declaration of support for the Iranian people’s uprising.

This declaration, signed by more than a thousand influential women from five continents and 67 countries, underscores the pivotal role of Iranian women in the ongoing movement for change.

“It speaks volumes that over a thousand prominent women, including 50 current and former presidents, vice presidents, prime ministers, ministers, 175 parliamentarians, Nobel Prize laureates, artists, and athletes have come together in solidarity,” MP Firth said. These signatories endorsed the Ten-Point Plan initiated by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), which champions complete gender equality in Iran.

“This is the only program that champions the complete equality of women and men across all sectors in Iran,” Firth remarked, expressing the deep concern she and many share regarding the absence of basic freedoms for women in Iran. As the mother of two young women, Firth found it “horrifying” that choices in clothing could lead to women being imprisoned or tortured.

MP Firth also noted the difference in freedoms enjoyed in the West compared to those in Iran. “We’re very lucky about the freedoms we have here in the West,” she stated, acknowledging the hard-won nature of these rights. “I can stand up in the House of Commons to champion the rights of women in Iran and to shine a spotlight on the atrocities. I can do that without fearing for my life, something which women in Iran cannot do.”

Furthermore, she stressed the vital need to advocate for Iranian women’s rights until they match the freedoms of the West. Firth concluded, “We must continue the fight until the day comes when they have the same rights in Iran as we do here in the UK.”

She ended her passionate address by paying tribute to those organizing the gathering and invited everyone to acknowledge the names of the global supporters. “We are all united against this atrocious regime,” Firth declared, expressing the unified ambition for a democratic regime and gender equality in Iran.

The continued support from global leaders and influential figures reflects the broader international call for change and equality in Iran.
