In a resolute act of defiance against tyranny, the courageous Baluchis of Zahedan, the provincial capital of Iran’s southeast Sistan & Baluchestan, instigated new anti-regime protests on Friday.
Despite the Iranian regime’s extensive security measures and internet restrictions, the people of Iran from varied social backgrounds continue to rise against the mullahs’ tyranny, illustrating their discontent with the regime.
Internet connectivity was reportedly cut off in Zahedan as Friday prayers commenced, often a prelude to the citizens’ weekly protests. This was later corroborated by NetBlocks, a global organization tracking internet connectivity.

Yet, undeterred by these constraints, the people of Zahedan resumed their rallies against the regime, expressing a fervent desire for regime change. They honored the martyrs of Iran’s revolution and the protesters killed by the regime’s security forces, vowing to seek retribution for their loss.
Demands for the release of political prisoners also echoed in the streets. Based on intelligence obtained by the People’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI/MEK), the regime has incarcerated over 30,000 protesters since the inception of the uprising in September. Thus far, four protesters have been executed, and several others face a similar fate.

The regime’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), paramilitary Basij units, and other security forces became the direct target of the protesters’ slogans, all of whom are accused of suppressing peaceful demonstrators. Over 750 protesters have been reportedly killed since the uprising began, with the names of 675 victims published by the MEK.
Protesters in Zahedan displayed placards reading, “Death to Khamenei!” and chanted, “Basij, IRGC, you are our ISIS!” The protests also underscored their yearning for liberation from the mullahs’ regime through chants like, “Mullahs must get lost!” They affirmed their rejection of all forms of dictatorship, including the former reign of the shah, encapsulated by placards declaring, “The bloody Friday of Zahedan, the repetition of crimes against the Baluch people by shah and mullahs’ regime.”

On September 30, 2022, known as Zahedan’s Bloody Friday, security forces opened fire on peaceful demonstrators, causing over 100 civilian casualties, including several children.
Iranian opposition President-elect Maryam Rajavi of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), commended the Zahedan protesters’ bravery, stating, “Your loud cries of seeking justice for your fallen brothers indicate your determination to overthrow the clerical regime. Iran, with its national and religious variety, will be free through solidarity and uprising.”
This uprising unfolds amid the regime’s escalating pressure on dissidents and the general populace.

Amnesty International recently issued a warning regarding the imminent execution of Mojahed (Abbas) Kourkouri, who was arrested about anti-regime protests. Furthermore, the regime is set to extend the imprisonment of political prisoner Maryam Akbari Monfared, who has been confined for nearly 14 years without leave.
