A recent insider report from the Iranian regime marked “confidential,” obtained by the Iranian dissident group “GhyamSarnegouni,” offers unprecedented insights into the mindset and decision-making processes of the regime’s top officials.

The report unveils the regime’s drive to acquire nuclear weapons in order to secure a stronger global position. It also explicates the reasoning behind the “look to the east policy,” aiming to replicate China’s geo-economic strategies.

However, the apprehension about possible domestic uprisings leads to more stringent social control measures, including extensive internet censorship and surveillance, which the regime perceives as necessary for maintaining its power.

Furthermore, the internal report discusses the influence of international sanctions on the regime’s actions. It indicates how supporting domestic uprisings can increase the cost of the regime’s repressive tactics, and potentially obstruct Western appeasement.

Despite these strategic calculations, the report seems to be out of sync with the socio-economic realities of the country. It discloses a consistent pattern of blaming the United States for internal problems, suggesting significant blind spots and negligence in the regime’s leadership.

In his recent Nowruz statements, the Supreme Leader emphasized the necessity of transformation and addressing the system’s weaknesses. According to him, “national self-confidence” and “strong faith” are crucial for inspiring change in the governance structure.

This shift, he believes, could help the nation overcome economic, foreign policy, and national identity challenges, involve the public in governance, and transform the system from an elite-based to a populace-centric model.

The regime’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs' role in facilitating Western inaction and encouraging others to ignore human rights abuses within Iran is also highlighted.

Based on the Leader’s perspective, this transformation could neutralize threats, unlock opportunities, and enhance Iran’s external strength. However, the lack of a precise understanding and practical implementation of this transformation envisioned by the Supreme Leader may provide opportunities for adversaries to exploit.

This insider report provides a rare peek into the thinking rooms of the Iranian regime and the challenges it faces, while highlighting the potential blind spots in its strategic calculations. The international community’s response to these revelations will undoubtedly shape the future dynamics of Iran’s domestic and international politics.
